*The GTX590 Club*

Are people over exaggerating this or is it as serious as it sounds? Does it affect all 590s?

Its not the cores, its the VRM's, if all the info is accurate, then frankly the VRM's are barely up to the job at stock, if the VRM's are simply not up to the required spec, every reference card will be the same. These aren't faulty VRM's, they are VRM's being used so close to the limit they are failing quickly.

Its very clear a lot of 590gtx's have died, a "lot" in this case is still a small number of cards because not many have been sold yet. Its a pretty worrying number of cards to die so quickly.

Just how many cards die/survive will probably be a heck of a lot clearer in a few weeks.

I really wouldn't keep one if you've bought it at the moment, get a decent one in a few weeks/month when a likely revision comes or MSI/Asus release one with 68 phase power as they usually do.

The other not to small problem being, its just not very fast for the price at stock and you definately don't want to overclock the thing. The 6990 isn't a great card either, sli/xfire 570/6950's are SO much better than both the dual gpu cards its a joke to be honest.

Since I don't have a forum account over there anyone want to point him and anyone else thinking I'm a liar to the pictures.

Okay, I'm convinced, do me a favor Final8ty tell greg b nothing personal and I appologize. There is just so much fanboyism regarding this issue that it is making everone skeptical on both sides because it's hard to tell when it's a false report being blown out of proportion by a fanboy. He has proven his case and I even believe he didn't over-volt it. Nvidia ****ed up plain and simple. The GTX 590 is officially a piece of **** in it's current design. They couldn't sell one to me for $100 let alone $699.99. After days of deliberating on the issue and trying to collect the facts with an open mind I come to a conclusion E.P.I.C.F.A.I.L.

Bet if you didn't have those pics he'd still call you a liar, i hate people like that

You could just show a screenshot of your invoice with personal info blanked out, no need to take pictures if you didnt want to.

Who want's to bet we see a GTX 595 in a couple of months? :D

Edit:

Make that a 695...

REally wouldn't surprise me to see a 595gtx, inch longer, 7 phase power with the same "rubbish" vrm's, or 4-5 phase power with vastly improved VRM's.

Though, the really troubling thing is, at 550-600Mhz, well, its a good 30-40% slower than a real 580gtx, why on earth not just use 2x560gtx's in the damn first place. At full clock speeds with the same pcb(give or take) the 560gtx's would actually use a little more voltage, and less amps.

I don't really see the point in using absolutely stunted 580gtx's to achieve the same, or really less performance than 2x560gtx's could probably achieve.

Hell, if its downclocking to 550Mhz, and with less memory bandwidth and no overclocking you're getting to the point that a single 580gtx with a decent overclock will be getting pretty close to it. They could even have more easily made it a 2gb per core card to match the 6990 had they gone with 560gtx's.

Whats worse, AMD fanboys laughing on forums because they still couldn't fit 2x full fermi's on a dual gpu card, or EVERYONE laughing at them because they still can't fit 2 full fermis on a dual gpu card, had to downclock it and they are dying very frequently.

Nvidia fans wouldn't have had an issue with an equally performance 2x560gtx card, infact losing to the 6990 would have been not even as big a deal if thats the way they went, with PR they could have gone the route of "we COULD have done it but did we really need another 6990 hoover sounding gpu on the market, we made a much more sensible card". Would have been cheaper, cooler, overclock safely, be easily faster than the 580gtx and most importantly not blow up.

Shame really, not that I would have bought one but it's always good to see both sides making decent cards and getting some healthy competition going on.

You have sold me for a 6990 and now to decide which make ,

Dont want ASUS after the Sandybridge stink
DONt know much about HIS or Sapphire any recommendations

I got my XFX HD 6990 for £497inc VAT, there out of stock today but back in soon. XFX model comes with x 2 lifetime warranty so when you sell the card the next owner gets lifetime warranty aswell. Good for re sell value lol. They have got the Asus model in stock for slightly more, can't post a link to where I got it here would send you pm but can't see anywhere to do it lol?

I have only got 1 pci-e x 16 in my mobo and a dual card is a great way to get top performance without needing more slots. I think if you go with a HD 6990 you wont be dissapointed with the performance and you will be able to sleep easy knowing that its not going to melt haha. It does get loud when stressed benchmarks etc, during gaming though especially with v sync on you can't notice the card.

If you really want a card that is silent though, may be worth wating for a non reference cooled version when they appear. Im really happy with my HD 6990 but may consider swapping it out when 28nm dual cards appear just to have a cooler quieter model, and im a sucker for new tech. For the next few months this card will be fine, max out any game with ease :)

Been put right off Nvidia, these cards should be recalled imo. They also got Techpower up to edit reviews and asked another site to only compare the GTX 590 to the HD 6990 lower bios (cos it got owned) yet Nvidia still claim the fastest card lol. Will be sticking with AMD cards from now on..

that news about decreasing clocks is horrendous. Surely they will recall these cards?

Nope, they are just stealth fixing them by reducing them to 550 Mhz, like 600 Mhz was too much in the first place for the cards to handle lol.

So I wonder how the GTX 590 @ 550 Mhz compares to a pair of GTX 560s @ 1 Ghz, that would be a great comparison if anyone can do it.

Do we expect a Nvdia statement on this or is the issue as not widespread as we all believe on these forums?

I know theres been a few you tube clips and a few reviews saying about the blowing up of the cards could this simply be a bad batch?

If they are faulty due to the way the card has been manufactured surely Nvdia will recall them
