The hidden gems

I have to agree with Max Payne.

Probably my favourite video game series next to Half Life. Excellent story and presentation and graphics are amazing.

I love my point'n'clicks/adventure especially Borken Sword / Monkey Island games.

As to hidden gems I dunno as I tend to like games that everyone else likes alos :) Hoever, the game Still Life sticks in my mind. Very good story - shame about the ending though.

YES, YES and even more YES!

I have played broken sword 1 & 2 a good 8-9 years ago when it came out on the ps1. That would have made me 7-8 years old.

Recently completed the 3rd one for the pc, just got the 4th to go :)

If you have nothing useful to say it is often better to say nothing at all.

The OP asked about obscure games that people liked. iBot correctly pointed out that just about every game so-far mentioned was actually very popular in its time (Max Payne rare? I don't think so - it was hard to escape the hype at the time). The vast majority of these game are only rare now because they are old. On that basis Doom is rare.

What i actually meant, was games that were reviewed highly, but hadnt had a lot of people play on them. Psychonauts is a good example of this.

Hostile Waters. Never see anyone mention it, but it's very cool. Was made by Rage, and features Tom Baker of Dr Who fame as the narrator. Uses a number of RTS elements very well while still allowing you to get properly involved in the action, and the AI is good too, especially when they start talking to each other.

Yep, Hostile Waters is the very definition of the hidden PC gem.

I would add Jagged Alliance 2 to this list. I don't think it was ever really a popular mainstream title, but it had/has tons of depth and charm.

Ok, fantastic, chronicals of riddick cant be played on the 360 - so what kind of specs am i looking at to play it nicely on pc?

Chronicles of Riddick is being remastered for the 360 and being released around christmas time. It's called CoR : Assault on Dark Athena, but it's basically the same game, but with written for the 360 and with a few extra bits thrown in.

Starcraft was ok, I preferred WC3 though.

Riddick was pretty good also, the best bit being the melee fighting. Those ring fights in the prison courtyard with the weapons, brutal.

Fahrenheit :) Best storyline for a game EVER! Should be a movie...

And I third uplink - it will kill an entire week of your life :)
