*** The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug ***

Watched it with the missus, she's a massive Hobbit/LOTR fan so enjoyed it even if it did get a bit stupid in places. Smaug was excellent and was it just me who was smiling during the interaction between him and Bilbo, all i could think of was Sherlock for some reason :D

Saw this last night in basic 2d. I found the film to be average and relatively entertaining. However, it did go on for a long time. Some of the action scenes were a bit daft, especially the barrels bit. I felt it cheapened it a little and was almost typical of the sort of drivel you find in the Pirates of the Carribean films.

Complete with an actor from PoC heh - I agree but I guess somewhat they have to for a broader audience appeal :| I dunno some of it was fun but I'd have liked a little more of the substance to. There was a couple of nice touches in that regard with the side scenes of Gandalf though they didn't flesh out one of them as much as I'd like and used cheap CGI tricks for yet another flashy action scene.

Despite it not sticking very closely to the story in places, I enjoyed it.

The most disappointing aspect is knowing that there's another 12 months until the conclusion; the audience literally groaned as the film ended. Good watch but I feel that the films would be better watched back to back.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they squeeze another two hours out of the story :D

So in the last film they're going to cram...

Fighting Smaug
Elves and Men fighting Dwarves
Elves and Men and Dwarves fighting Goblins

And by the looks of things some kind of stuff with Wizards vs Sauron to get him out

The comedy physics with the dwarves (lets throw the fat one about for a while) are annoying and too much like a video game sequence.

The higher fps took some getting used to. After about 30 mins I was used to it though. But i noticed it from the start.

I went to watch it on boxing day with my mom and on the way out she said, it was good but at times it didn't look real. I had to break it to her that it was not actually real lol.

Pretty much sums it up for me too :)

Fantastic film, just disappointed there wasn't a Dragon in the film :) Just some big Wyvern (though he looked amazing!!) :D

An okay watch but feels like the studio interfered or something just doesn't feel right not nearly dark or stylish enough.

Watched this yesterday.... Fairly good.

But wtf was with some of the shoddy cgi? In parts it was like watching the effects in Jason & the Argonauts from the back in the day!
