Out 23rd March!

Jennifer lawrence is HOT and the books its based on are AMAZING. If you haven't read them, do it!

Here's a review for those who want to read it. The Hunger Games is an essential science fiction film for our times; perhaps the essential science fiction film of our times. Whatever your age, it demands to be devoured.

Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match.

I don't think this will be very good, from what I've heard it's Battle Royale-esq, so it should probably be an 18 to allow for more gore

I said I'd heard it was battle royale-esq, I still want to see it, can't be as bad as The Condemned

battle royale was based on lord of the flies as well, so what if its based on something else have a read of the books as they are a cracking read, am really looking forward to this, of to watch it on friday next week with the missus, hope it is a success as the two other books will put the twilight series to shame (not much needed for that) if they are made

I guess that's how the films are being marketed, at least...

Not really, that's how some journalists are tagging it.

The online and offline campaign hasn't gone out of it's way to promote it self as a Twilight comparison.

The book attracts ages from 12-30 and I'd expect a lot of young adults to go watch The Hunger Games.

It's far more sophisticated than Twilight and deals with harrowing themes.

That's the impression I had of it, from what my wife had said of the books, but it seems everyone just wants to refer to it as the new Twilight... I guess it's "mature" fiction aimed at teens. Why not try to ride on the coat tails of the vampire dross juggernaut?

I read the books about 3 weeks ago, and they are very good, easily one of the best books ive read in the past few months. Not sure about the films, but will be going to see them anyway. I have an unlimited cineworld card otherwise I might have given it a miss.

You do understand that the books are for young adults right?

It does sound very Battle Royale-esque, yes but it's totally not for that kind of audience.

I didn't even know it was a book lol, I don't read anything other than magazines, TV Guide and Comics lol

Lions Gate actually edited the film for the UK, digitally removing blood from weapons, and excising shots of wounds, so it wouldn't receive a 15 certificate.

Might give the books a read some time soon.

it's just a western battle Royale.

Still looks like it is worth a watch, but wont come close to the original.

and regardless of what anyone is going to say, it just the same film in a new wrapper.

children fighting in a arena for the pleasure of the Capitol while the districts starve and live of scraps, its about 20% like BR and thats it

Not really. Lionsgate removed 7 seconds of footage.

Huh? "Not really"? Then you say they did indeed remove footage?

The UK theatrical cut is censored. That's a fact. Their own statement was that they insisted on completing the required cuts so that they could remain open to their intended audience.

It's not a criticism, just an observation.
