The Hunger Games

I quite enjoyed the film. Although I do feel they could have spent less time getting to the games and preparing for them and spent more of the time actually in the games.

I can't believe I wasted £8 sitting through that utter dross. It takes a heck of a long time getting going, and then when it does it simply goes nowhere fast. The characters are all boring, not even Woody could save the film. The plot is good, I enjoy the way some of the story was done, but it was really told in a poor way. I can't help but feel it would have been far more action-packed if they hadn't aimed for the 12A certificate.

Typical Hollywood book-to-screen conversion. There's just no originality in Hollywood anymore.

Brilliant logic if Gustov got banned for someone else calling him the c word :D

I should be watching this tonight too :)

Watched it last night, I thought it was all right, other half thought it was pants.

Not much to it in the end and they could have really played on her hunting skills but barely touched on them.

One to wait for to watch at home I'd say.

Hopefully the DVD/BR will be unedited, the start of the games proper was laughable. As for the film itself, it was ok actually. The pacing was bad but that's more to do with the book itself as the first half of the book is quite introspective, which doesn't really translate as well onto the screen. That's my main complaint really, you don't get much of a view into Katniss' interiority as in the book. The important scenes were done quite well, there were two pretty powerful ones. For a first film in the series, it was done pretty well.

Ranks as one of the worst i've seen in some time. This review sums up my feelings "...too long and deliberate as it negotiated the outskirts of its moral issues". The moment touched apon the moral & outrageous class system it pulled back to teen love scenes. Seen much better in Battle Royale & Rollerball. Bit of teen flick

I didnt go in 'expecting' battle royale - I went in expecting a film that actually showed something other then two completely unlikable characters attempting some half assed effort of love.

I've not read the books so I don't know if this is actually correct but isn't that kind of the point? It was meant to be a half-assed effort by Katniss just to get some of those sponsors to help them / people to like them.

I liked the movie but I wish it had a) better director (get this guy a tripod or something!) and b) better/tighter screenplay. Had they known it would pull 200mil+ during the first week, I bet they could have done a better job on the movie. They only finished filming last September and six months from that to release isn't a long time for such a big and effects heavy movie.

One of the worst films I've seen in some time... it was too long, had bad pacing, included a pointless and unbelievable 'love' story, suffered from poor acting...

I'm not going to see this for the same reason I haven't read the books.

I grew out of teen fiction when I stopped being a teenager.

I mean really some of the people arguing about this are older than me, how about instead of getting angry that someone doesn't like a book you like (ignoring the fact it is a book meant for teenagers) why don't you go out and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of age appropriate literature that is just waiting for you to get involved.

Look, by all means read this stuff and if you enjoy it then that's great, but for the love of god remember the fact that the books are not meant for you, it will save you allot for time and embarrassment when you decide to try and justify your interest in them.

Saw it today and if I hadn't already read the books I'd have left a bit confused and disappointed because so much is either skipped entirely or merely alluded to. The first book is definitely worth reading, the sequels aren't as good in my view but do round off the story so if you enjoy the first then you might as well finish them.

Having read the books I thought the film was okay, it was interesting to see their take on what I'd imagined and I thought the acting was actually pretty good. For those who thought the love angle was weak, it's supposed to be since in the book it's almost entirely one-sided, sadly this was lost (along with a lot of other things) for the sake of keeping the film to a reasonable length.

Saw this last weekend and though it was ok but it seemed to be lacking in some areas. I haven't read the books so I'm not sure if they changed some of the material I thought was a bit tacked on. Altogether I think its a solid 6/10 film. Extremely similar to Battle Royale which is a much more superior film.

It was too vanilla. The concept deserved much more in depth execution.

Also, at no time did I worry for our main heroine. It was obvious she was coming put of that victorious so there was no tension due to that.

Do you know what they call 'The Hunger Games' in France?

A Battle Royale with cheese.

:D

I saw this the other day and it was nothing more than 'OK'. For such a long film not that much happened and they didn't say a lot with it. Also what was with the shakycam at the beginning?
