The 'I can't play it!' thread

:D

they're not extended through the whole song. i can manage it for a bit then my voice dies. his vocal chords can take a full tactical assault and stay in tact perfectly for a very long time!! :( talented git

It'd be nice to have his voice :(
He's got some serious range, that man.

I once tried to sing a 3 Inches of Blood song.
Bad idea, that.

I tried to learn the clean bit (near the start, and again in the middle) of The Audience is Listening today...it's impossible. :o

Master of puppets and battery spring to mind, my arm gets tired!

hehe Master of Puppets is the first song Ive taught myself, only been playing 7months :) (and yes, after the intro my arm feels like its gonna fall off)

Cant quite get up to speed yet, practice eh.

Need to find another song now.

Elvis did a cover of "Never Been To Spain" by Three Dog Night. It's an awesome, big song. I can't for the life of me get the right vocal tone in the choruses and it absolutely does my head in. I can nail songs that are deemed more difficult that that one but "Never Been To Spain" completely defeats me.

Pulling Teeth(Anesthesia). I can almost get the first half down. But then the drums come in and it's just like WTF? Waaay to fast for the likes of me:).

I can roar, scream and growl like a mofo all the way through a 4 hour practice and not miss a beat. It's all about technique and practice.

Actually...Breed To Breathe by Napalm Death had me nailed for a few weeks...But I've never really been in cover bands and we only did it for a giggle anyhoo so that doesn't count.

It's not that, It's just that I can't hit those notes, even clean.
Plus my technique sucks too.

ha, cool thread.

Muse - Microcuts

I can sing it :\ - it's easy because it's falsetto the entire time. I find some other Muse songs harder to sing because of the kind of blank spot between standard singing and falsetto which Bellamy doesn't have.

Oh, and Muse do bone.

Texas Flood / Little Wing by SRV.... I will get there (in a few years time).... then again I said that 10 years ago. I can just about play the hendrix one but Stevie's version is pretty heavy going

The cadenza out of Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto. Not the easy ossia Argerich plays, the real one you need 28 fingers for. My hands just aren't big enough and never will be :p

LOL

Shame on you for even trying to play that monster...

If it would help or inspire you, I have a copy of the man himself playing it - rather excellent it is too. I can point you to where you can get a copy via e-mail if you like

Shame? I like the piece and enjoy playing it :)

Thanks but no thanks, I've got it on CD myself knocking around somewhere. I like the Moiseiwitsch 2 as well.

Perhaps I should have replaced the word 'shame' with 'I am instantly jealous' :D

Lots of practice and metronome playing is all that's required, except for a few bits which are very hard, such as the cadenza I mentioned above. I wouldn't put it on the same level as some of the Ligeti Etudes or some pieces of Chopin I've been trying to master and not quite managing for years, but in places it's harder than all of them.
