The internet has ruined music buying :(

MVC went bust didn't they?

Was always fantastic for rare special edition DVD's. Or at least the Leicester one was.

Leicester also has a HMV, and Virgin megastore and a couple of fantastic independant music shops.

Nothing quite like going out on a mission to find a rare CD and finding it after a 3 hour search (that's 3 hours per shop, obviously).

Fopp rocks a hard one. It's immeasurably better than any other music store.

indeed! shame i dont live anywhere near it, and only get to go in while visiting friends, so money is better spent on other things!!

Bradford isnt too bad. HMV and virging seem to have what ever i need, and with wh smiths close by, and tesco offering a few cds, i've never not found anything in shops that i expected to be there!

Best CD shop ever though is in scunthorpe, and is called Record Village :)

I've not been in a Virgin for a long time.

In Worcester we have a HMV, MVC and a record (DJ) shop, which is pretty decent. Going into Birmingham is a different story though. There's more than one HMV and a decent Virgin, which I entered today. There are plenty of other record shops as well.

It's got to be said though, having the shops doesn't mean you have a great selection of music.

MVC shut down in my home town as well, but luckily Muzikstore opened up in its place. Super cheap CDs/DVD's. MVC was always expensive.

Dude, Matblack lives in Maidstone - that was the MVC he is on about :p

Bionic was always stunning but that closed down with the fremlins walk development.

It moved to Brighton, been there a few times, but now its like a crappy wannabe goth clothes shop... :(

Really ;) :p

Theres loads of music stores in town here, and they are always busy, but they are the bigger stores like Virgin, HMV and MVC. Their are very few independant shops now.

To be honest i find somewhere like Asda is usually the cheapest place to go.

I dont mind music getting taken over by the net. Its a lot cheaper to purchase online, and unless your buying an album, a single takes up too much space when you have a lot of them, and singles are way too expensive for my liking.

I wouldnt say its a bad thing as such that the net is taking over music, but it will get annoying if it starts to become impossile to find an album you want to get a proper copy of rather than purchased via itunes or whatever.

Oi. The only Tower Records near me sold chart cds for £16.99  :(
Well, I dunno about that since

(i) the last time I went into Tower Records was about two years ago, and
(ii) I wouldn't have gone into the chart section.

But their selection of affordable indie music was pretty comprehensive (entire Bright Eyes catalogue for under a tenner each? Thank you!) and their selection of vinyl was mind-blowing - biggest 7" section that I've seen in any shop.

My favourite shops are the ones on Benet Street in London, and the ones to be found in the lanes in Brighton. There's a great one called Svengali in Windsor, though - can err a little on the expensive side (aren't really any CDs under £10) but the staff are so knowledgeable it's pretty unreal. They have a great collection of memorabilia, too!

Plenty of music shops where I am. Fopp is the best

Fopp is evil i tell you, last time i went in there i walked out with 9 cd's and 72 quid less in my bank account :D 2 of which were double disk live albums, and on was a 3 cd drum and bass mix, so a good day was had by all :)

Can't be dealing with HMV, their selection is just too limited, Virgin is ok, buy a fair few cd's in there, as they have a descent selection, a nice big metal section, a big enough Dance section so that they actually have something approaching a selection of Drum and Bass. Still get a bit norked at being asked to pay 16.99 or so for a lot of cd's. Considering the vast majority of stuff i want is that price or i could walk into fopp and have most for a tenner or less or 15 quid at very most, and there are very few 15 quid cd's i find in Fopp.
