The 'is there a better FPS than Half-Life' thread

Agree with above. STALKER was fantastic and for a very long it was my favourite. It's feeling a little dated now so currently Skyrim is my favourite. I think STALKER will remain my all time favourite, even if I don't play it as much.

I preferred the original Far Cry and Crysis 1. But Half Life 2 is definitely up there as one of the best.

I Also liked very much all of these (in no order): Bioshock 1&2, Deus Ex: 3, Borderlands, Rage, Metro 2033, F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. 2, Doom 3, UT, Return to Castle wolfenstein, Quake 3 Arena, Pain killer, Bullet storm, Star wars battlefront, Left for dead 1&2, Halo 1,2,3, ODST and reach, Killzone and theres still probably 20+ more i've missed :p

Counterstrike/Source is the best ever, TF2 comes close.

I have given up buying any new game now as I always come back to these 3!

As previously posted System Shock 2 is probably my favourite (taking everything into account). Doom and Doom 2 have a special place in my memory as they are what got me really started on PC gaming.

I loved UT (the original) and think it's online (CTF insta) is probably still one of my favourites. I liked Deus Ex (the sequels I didn't really enjoy).

HL was good - but I don't class it as anything other than a well-polished FPS - the episodic and, what looks like, now an almost Duke Nukem type enternity before releasing the conclusion has somewhat tempered my view.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
Psi Ops (starts off weak but amazing later on).
Crysis 1.
Singularity.
Dead Space.
Quake2/ Quake 4.

Tbh, Half Life is a great story and a great game, but I don't think it deserves to be called the best FPS, ever.

It is very, very good and we're all itching for part 3, of course.

Yep Unreal came out 6 months before Halflife yet has better graphics and is a longer game. Everyone raves about the opening to halflife but Unreal wasn't half bad, great interactive introduction on Vortex Rikers, hearing somebody getting destroyed behind a door, reading the diaries, then level 2 stepping out into a MASSIVE open world (by 1998 FPS standards), then level 3 the unforgettable "corridor lights" set piece where you fight your first Skaarj.

IMO Deus Ex and Far Cry are both better than Halflife, although as a series HL is hard to match.

For single player it's probably my favourite, however Goldeneye (N64) and Unreal come very close. Red Faction on the PS2 also deserves a mention although it's probably nostalgia rather than it being a good game.

For Multiplayer it doesn't even come close to Timesplitters, Goldeneye and Quake II.

F.E.A.R was one of my first FPS on a PC. my bro showed me the demo and i was blown away. the destruction, AI, dynamic lighting etc where brill.

fear 3 doesn't have dynamic lighting and the attention to detail that the original has.

cheers console noobs
