The Jaffacake- An Antec Striker MATX Build

Hello Curlyriff,

first I want to apologize for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker at all :D.

Anyway, I'm replying to this Thread because I really liked your impressive Antec Striker Build, while I was researching for my own build in this case that I'm currently planning.

Sadly your last update to the build was in January, is the build completed by now? I would really like to see that beast completed and running :D. Is there any chance for you maybe to take pictures of it?

The reason I'm asking for it, is because I'm planning to also use a mATX or even ATX board if possible, what exactly did you mod on that case in particular to achieve using the mATX board? Also, I would be really interested in how exactly you plug things into the i/o panel since it seems like the radiator is exactly behind the panel which makes it a bit difficult to plug things in and out?

Would you also recommend going for an SFX Power supply or is a regular ATX one also fine?

I would really appreciate if you could maybe answer some of my questions :D.
Maybe you also have some tips for me when planning a build in the case?

PS: Did you model the whole case yourself in CAD or is there any template for the case? I sadly wasn't able to find a file for the case.

Kind regards from Germany

Hey buddy, thanks for the reply. Indeed things have been on hold a little. Although is all up and running I haven't got to the custom cables or the transfers. I will get some pictures up of how it is this evening for you :)

  • MATX mod is simple enough. You just need to drill the back plate of the case chassis to suit the screw locations. You wont get all in but enough to hold it proper and be just fine.
  • You can have the rotation of the mobo any direction you want as it square, I just prefer it correct orientation myself.
  • In terms of the IO, all my gear is Bluetooth/Logiteceh Lightspeed stuff with only the internet cable and single 90 degree USB extender cable to allow the mobo to connect to monitor USB so yeah if you need to plug in and out it a pain in my orientation and not everything fits like the lightspeed USB for headphones hence why I have used an extender for easy access stuff that will be connect to wall in future.
  • I woudl certainly recommend an SFX power supply for easier cable but if you stick to MATX an ATX would just fit in the bottom as needed since the mobo doesn't extend lower than the chassis.
  • For ATX mobo you will need to deffo use SFX and you will need to cut up the bottom of the chassis to lower the SFX through a few cm so it sits on your desk pretty much. I have looked at this but got no further as I don't really need to upgrade but I am thinking next PC upgrade I will play with case to do so
  • The case model I drew up in Sketchup. It is about 95% accurate but enough to get it working for test fitting items etc. I can share that with you if you want
Hope that helps a little. If you want to discuss anything further just drop a reply as needed :)

Thanks for your reply! Im quite excited to see how it looks right now :D.
Well i don't think i want to rip the whole case apart just to fit a ATX Motherboard, mATX should be fine then i guess.
SFX is most of the times way harder to get and more expensive, but since i will do custom cables my self i think i won't have such troubles with cable management because they will be all just long enough to fit exactly :D.

I saw a build where the guy managed to get two 240mm radiators on the back of the motherboard right next to each other, and then the pump in the back of the case where the i/o shield is. That looks really good, if its possible
with a mATX Board i will probably try to achieve the same thing. Only sad thing to this case is, that you can't get a distro plate or atleast not without loosing cooling perfomance because you can't fit 2x 240mm with a Distroplate i think?

If you're fine with it, i would really like to get the case model, would probably help me a lot with measuering before ordering all the things and then returning them because they don't fit :D.

Again: Thanks a lot for your help! I really appreciate it!

Not a problem at all. And yeah, tbh there isn't a huge reason to go ATX over MATX in my view unless you need more than 2No. M.2 drives. There has been plenty of Corsair SF750 supplies about these days if you happy with the £130ish mark. That what I am using and it a solid bit of kit tbh. In terms of build yeah you could get two 240's to the rear. It needs the same slight mod as I did to get my block on back next to rad. Again just need to add a few screw holes to the chassis. You can switch between which rad and block positions you want at that point since all three locations would be equivalent to 2x120 setting out positions.

It would have the same issue as with Rad in terms of IO if you went for standard orientation, however rotating the mobo as per their recommended orientation it is meant to be in so IO faces down (you would be forced to use an SFX with that rotation and MATX) then you would have no IO issues in terms of USB ports etc and then no problem with the back rad/block.

Model no problem at all. Will sort that out this evening too.

Yeah right, not sure if 750 is enough for a 6900 XT + 5600X / 5800X since they recommend 850 atleast :D.
Your orientation looks a lot better and the cables are not as sticking out as much as they would if the IO faces down. So i will probably go your orientation ^^.

Thanks!

Well I'm using the 750w for a 5950x and 6900xt all okay and haven't had problem with the gpu pulling 275w peak if I push it with the auto overclock in the driver software. It maxes out out 255w with it on balanced.

Oh okay good to know thanks! My first difficult decision will be my Color scheme anyways :D Somewhere between Blue, Black, White and Grey

Don't wanna annoy you, but did you had any chance yet uploading the3d Sketchup model and maybe current pictures :D?

Hey @Curlyriff ,
thanks for all your answers already, just want to know, if you still plan to send me the File :) If not its also fine, just wanna know tho! Thanks and have a nice evening!

Ah oops. Sorry I haven't got back to you at all. I have put reminder on calendar to sort this evening. I will upload it to a WeTransfer file or similar for the Sketchup and will take some pictures of where at as well :) thanks for reminder.

Thank you very much! Have a great evening and im quite nervous to see that build haha :D

Latest images. As can see I still need to get the graphics to panels design/sorted and custom cabling sorted. I am also working on a plate to cover up to the M.2 under the CPU that will have a small screen built in with the info on like CPU & GPU temps showing and which will also house the on/off switch. Lastly I am looking to make a roof shroud that would support 2x 120mm fans with a similar design premise to the Antec Torque. This would be black rather than orange panel to tie it in and balance the tube runs. So still a solid amount to do tbh.

P.S desk still temp build for concept and it needs a good dust but I actually haven't dusted it down at all since building in December so not going too bad. I haven't put glass back on purely cause I haven't finished it.
