The lack of photo threads around these parts§

Speaking of which, 40 views on my thread and no comments, not complaining as such, but it's easy to see why some wouldn't bother.

That's my point really and be fair motorsport isn't to everyone tastes, but it's a little off putting taking the time to link to say 20 images from flickr get some views and no comments, but then a poster who is better known posting some similer photos of the same subject and get loads of comments etc.

I disagree about having this forum broken down into separate ones. It's not overly busy and if I miss a day, I don't always have to go back a page to catch up. It's also nice to have everything in 1 place. Although I am a member of TP as well, I prefer here especially as this forum covers everything (photos, gear, etc) and feels more "intimate".

Last time I shot and started a thread was start of Feb, and although I've used my camera since, they've not been of high photography merit. Having said that, I will start a thread to get some feedback. Going to London with the gf on Saturday as well, but not sure how much shooting will get done - don't want to neglect her! Otherwise I have been ridiculously busy and not able to contribute as much as I would like. :(

I picked up the 600mm badboy in the last days of 2010, getting in before the VAT hike, and I'm very embarrassed to admit that I've hardly used it. The light throughout Jan was awful (I think there was a BBC article on it which said it was 40% less light than the average). Feb was a busy work month, we're now in March, I've booked next week off and the Weather is again looking iffy.

Anyway I hope to get a few snaps in next week so I can assess if getting a hernia is worth it for the shots :)

Interesting topic.

I posted a shot before I read this only yesterday and almost immediately the subject of the image was attacked rather than the photograph itself being disected.

This was the only forum that happened on having posted the same image on numerous other photographic discussion boards. Having scoured the posts of the folks who replied execting to see Joe McNally's and Ansel Adams aplenty I found this not to be the case. Maybe if C&C was limited to the image as intended instead of pushing to commenting on personal taste on the subject matter things would run more smoothly.

Just my 2p

Wait for me to return from my first trip away with all my equipment (I'm a complete noob who has just got into D-SLR hobby) so i will have a waft of photos up for C&C :D

San Diego, Vegas, Mohave NP, Joshua Tree NP, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, you shall have it all :D

Isn't C&C of an image also based on the model & poses?

It wasn't personal attacks, you got very defensive and dismissive of people straight away.

Everyone said 'Good shot' and commented on it technically etc. But to C&C an image you need to look past the technical side of things also, and quite often on this forum if there's modeling images especially then poses etc will be picked up on because it's all part of the image.

Comments on the girls poses and pouting. The Phate thread you just posted in, comments about the models poses etc, it happens.

And you can go and scout my threads too if you'd like; i'm a pants photographer but can give 'Just my 2p' as well.

When you post stuff up on a forum you've got to be open to everything.

To be fair it was only one person getting hung up on her skin colour, and seemingly for dislike of fake tan rather than photographic reasons. The rest of us pointed out things we felt were wrong with the image that you could have improved. If you didn't want feedback just pop a note up at the top :)

It was viewed as a personal attack as it didnt have anything to do with the photograph, the lighting, the framing or composition.

A bit similar to say me posting a photo from a football match with a striker launching a shot at goal for a commenter to post that the team or player was ****.

Unrelated.

Poses etc I explained in detail about and were valid points raised :)

Agreed. In the main the responses were of a techincal nature and were responded to in that manner (deep colour casting, unsure look due to first time use of equipment by model and 5 minute timeframe).

It was mainly posted to highlight a slightly different way of shooting a scene using small flashes (hence the explanation of settings in the post instead of "hey check out this amazing photo I just took") :D
