The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

Feel like this weeks episode was slotted in the wrong place being the penultimate episode of s2 especially the first 30 min, did this happen in the game or is this a 'everyone enjoyed Papa Joel' so let's add more screentime.

The last 5 minutes was a great master class on Acting from Pedro, so many emoticons shown on his face in a short amount of time.

Now they've confirmed it's going to be 4 seasons no doubt they'll be more filler episodes to get there.

Question for @kakarott, @TonTom and @The Shape - have you played TLoU1/2 or are you coming into this series with no preconceptions? Playing the games reaaaaaally makes a difference in the perception of the scenes. It also really eases the view towards Bella Ramsey. I wasn't massively enamoured with her casting choice initially but if you compare her to Ellie in the game she's doing a great job in her portrayal imo.
I’ve never played the games.

I don’t see Joel’s actions re Eugene and the Firflues as making him out to be a villain either.

The scene on the porch was pretty well done, close to the game.

It had much more impact in the game for me as it was..

literally the final scene, after spending the entire game not knowing that she decides to try to forgive him/repair their relationship, only for him to get battered then next day

So as it's played out, we have to assume season 3 will be
Abby's time in Seattle, day 1 through 3. Then maybe season 4 is from the confrontation at the Cinema onwards

I agree, I don’t like how they’ve structured that episode at all. While it was a good episode from a Pedro perspective, it’s deviating too much from the game structure for my liking.

It was a bold creative decision. Look forward to seeing what they have planned for the finale in season 4

I thought this last episode was excellent. As someone who hasn't played the game the Joel ending annoyed me but this episode added far more to his demise episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'filler'. I thought the girl playing Ellie did a superb job in this episode. Story really reminds me of the Walking Dead game with Clementine and the black guy looking after her as his own with her Arc getting harder and tougher.

My thinking
I'd like to hope that the final S02 episode will play out similar to Seattle Day 3 including the final scene in Day 3, then S03 can do the Abby story and S04 starts at the final S02 scene to the finish.

Agree on the porch scene. In the game it was such a gut punch after all the toil Ellie had been through.

Still a great scene, it would have just been more poignant at the end of the show I think.

Really enjoying the show in general though.

Just caught up on episodes 6 and 7 after coming back from holiday.

I thought 6 in particular was excellent. I don't get emotional watching much, but that scene on the porch got me welling up, which is far more of an emotional response than the game managed to be honest.

Episode 7 was good as well. I don't remember:

Ellie ever going to the Seraphites island, but I understand why they did that so that the viewer got a bit of an insight that the WLF are attacking the island, that people who played the game got via Abbeys storyline. Bit convient they didn't quickly kill her before running off to protect the village though.

At least they didn't shy away from the game, where Mel is pregnant when she is killed, though it was more accidental this time. In the game, Mel attacks Ellie, after she shoots owen

Season 3 is going to be heavily focused on Abbeys story

With how s2 ends will s3 be making Abby the main character for a while?
If it follows the game, which it no doubt will, almost all of season 3 will be Abby.

There isn't much of a story left for Ellie, I don't know how they're going to manage a 4th season with the remaining material or lack of

The official podcast hints at expanding on Isaac storyline/ WLF backstory and maybe showing a bit more about the Seraphites and the prophet(s)?, so not just Abby next season.
