The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

I am only interested in Nintendo exclusives and they should be hiring a lot more staff to pump out games more often. Why have we not had a new Mario Kart game out already for example? I played Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U almost 10 years ago! Wtf Nintendo?
It is different though, 2 powerups, purple boost and I believe 48 additional tracks via dlc and a few new characters. But yea it's not a new Mario Kart game.

I don't think we'll be seeing any sort of hardware for a while - you'd expect them to coincide it with a big game release like TOTK if they were going to do it, to drive sales.

Release a Switch Pro with TOTK and show it can run twice the framerate and it'll sell ridiculous numbers.

Release a Switch Pro 6 months later and no one will buy because what's the point when you've already finished the last big release and there's not much else on the horizon? You're not going to sell consoles off the back of Pikmin 4.
Hey, don't diss the Pikmin !

There are several big titles that would sell a Switch 2, and one or two are known to be in develpment eg. Metroid 4, Xenoblade X remake. It wouldn't surprise me if a new Mario Kart and Mario platformer are in the wings, too. And don't discount a major DLC for TOTK ; people can, and do, replay Zelda games multiple times and would be delighted at doing so with much better hardware/performance.

True. Makes so sense. Maybe Mario Kart 9 and another Mario World game is due end of the year?

Possibly - as per one of my previous posts in the Switch thread, I think we'll be lucky if we see a Switch successor before 2025.

Even so, it doesn't bode well that it won't launch with a new Zelda game on the horizon...

GC - launched with Wind Waker, generally successful console for Nintendo
Wii - launched with Twilight Princess, hugely successful console for Nintendo
WiiU - launched just after Skyward Sword released on Wii, failure of a console for Nintendo (didn't even ever really have it's own Zelda, given BOTW ended up being more of a Switch game)
Switch - launched with BOTW, hugely successful console for Nintendo
Switch 2 - launching shortly after TOTK releases on Switch? Uh oh :p

Please keep this thread Totk related and use the other switch thread for general switch stuff.

Saying that, I'm so annoyed it released nearly 2 weeks early. I can cope with 1 week but come on.

Bear in mind a lot of what you'll be reading on Reddit is people running the leak on emulators - this won't necessarily be the most accurate representation of how it runs on an actual Switch
On actual hardware it may be poor as well. This isn't me btw

This is where a hacked switch will come in handy. I think I can dump my game and overclock the Switch.

Apparently the MD5 hash of the 'leaked' version matches that of the 'early testing dump'
So it's likely not final... The performance issues maybe fixed in the final release or with a day 1 patch

Yea you can but even overclocked you likely wont see a solid 30fps if what im reading online is to be believed.

What about those frame unlocking patches? I'm sure other games had it on that temp forum.

Honestly haven't had a look too much into it, just been sort of following. I mean you can do all of that stuff if you please and have the kit to do it :)

It didn't launch with WW :)
I was waiting for the pedantry but the post loses a bit of flow if it's full of explaining that whilst it technically didn't "launch" with it, everyone knew it was coming in the near future when the console launched, unlike the WiiU which had sod all on the horizon, as would be the case if Switch 2 lands next year :p

The NGC was arguably not successful commercially.

I don't think Zelda is the key to the puzzle of whether or not a system sells well, tbh - the Wii was successful because it appealed to the mass market and, in large part, Wii Sports.

Wii U didn't market it self well enough, it failed to distinguish itself from its predecessor.

The Switch combined mobile gaming with home console gaming and again, appealed to a mass market. BOTW sold a bucket load, don't get me wrong, but I think without BOTW the Switch would've gained momentum either way.

Mario titles are the system sellers typically.
