The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

I can't believe I spent 3 hours walking around the initial Great Sky Island tutorial area without realising you MUST visit the first way point. I literally went clockwise all the way around until I could go no further. It wasn't easy without any abilities! Oh God.

Haha don’t worry it’s the kind of game you just do whatever. I’ve lost tons of hours doing what I don’t need to do. It’s a great sandbox do go with whatever.

As much as I love the game, I am missing the old days of opening big chests and getting a mega upgrade. Was same with BOTW. They've frontloaded it here with the ultra hand. Opening a hard to reach chest and getting 10 arrows is a bit of a let down.

I agree. Rather than forcing players to spend dozens of hours farming materials to afford armour & upgrades, it would be more rewarding, in my opinion, to receive those items for finishing quests and puzzles. BotW had similar issues, but Ninty have doubled down on this flaw unfortunately. Game's great otherwise !

I’ve found a fair few pieces of armour in chests whilst exploring. Found the knights leggings this morning.
Finds like that are a rarity, though. Most treasure chests contain trivial rewards eg. 5 arrows, an opal, a topaz, a zonaite power cell. As a consequence, TotK ( and BotW ) often feels like a survival game where the player is having to scrape by using each item with careful consideration. I'm not sure that's what most traditional Zelda fans want - see the Nintendo and TotK sub-reddits for proof of that.

I have spent many more hours getting all shrines and most lightroots (still got few left) and also quite few amor sets some which look very cool.
Overall I think I had best time just playing from the start and doing main quest line (main bosses), there is a lot of things to do, many side quest, many shrines etc, it's obviously worth doing as many shrines as possible so that you don't get one shotted all the time but you don't need too many in order to complete the game.
At this point I am almost done with the game, there are still few things that I want to do but I think I'm going to have more fun replaying the main story again in the future as after this there is just a lot of boring grinding to do, so will definitely not be doing all the extras again in the future.

I enjoy shrine/light root hunting. I’ve backed away from the main story line and I’m just exploring. This must be the biggest ‘oh what’s that over there!’ games ever made. It’s quite overwhelming at times but still loving it.
