The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

Switch related but mainly Zelda - how playable are the older Zelda games via the Switch "virtual console" - mainly the N64 ones (OoT and MM)?
Never had an N64 at the time and did pick one up later but mainly for Goldeneye and Mario Kart, fancy trying the older ones out.

Always surprises me how many people rate Majoras Mask over Ocarina of Time, I really didn't get on with MM.

Glad I'm not the only one.

I've done a fair bit of reading and watching into MM recently, as I've attempted playing through the game around three or four times, just to see if I'm "missing" something as the collective consciousness seems to hail it as a masterpiece and like you both, I don't get it.

I wonder how many folk who praise it actually regularly play it, or have even played it recently. I think what separates MM from the others is the depth of the story and more adult themes and subtext of the narrative, which is what has driven my desire to play it through, but I genuinely don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

Playing OOT feels as great as ever, and I do regularly play it through.

Not really an answer to your question but the snes a link to the past is great on the Switch. I need to get on the N64 ones to check them out.

I wouldn't say its better than oot but certainly up there.

For me, it was the unique way for the world to reset every x days, and what that allowed. I can't think of any games at the time that had a day and night cycle, with the ai having schedules they kept.

I really enjoyed the mission where you had to do something like intercept a letter before it gets sent, and then get the mail man to get it early, and then get the goron to look at it, and then get the person to wait for the goron at a certain time/day, and if you messed up by being late on any, you had to stsrt again.

Now I've not played it again since release, and I can't imagine it stands up well against new games, but I view mm with the experience it gave at the time and what games compared to it, which to me, the only game at the time I could compare it to in terms of quality, was oot.

Tell me another game that game out in that era that was better.

3 weeks to go...

Looking forward to it. Will likely end up being my GOTY. Still quite a few games I am interested in playing, namely Starfield, but can't be for sure with those. Only other game I can see being able to beat it is Horizon forbidden west if it comes to pc this year.

Why can't Nintendo bang out more titles of this caliber?

A few snippets of new footage I believe:

That doesn't sound enjoyable haha

MM was the first game I needed a guide to complete
Even OOT and Shadowman (collecting all 120 souls) were done without guides but I got completely stuck on MM

Anyone know why they release the ToTK oled switch 2 weeks before the game?

Logistics. That's what my uncle at Nintendo reckons anyway.

In all seriousness TOTK is going to sell massively and a very small % of that customer base also cares about the new console, they just want the game.

Besides, the console doesn't come bundled with the game anyway.

Thanks

I've bought one, considering last zelda game on switch, not got a console thought it was worth it. Will smash out BOTW in the 2 weeks :)

I cancelled my pre-order of the console as I couldn't decide whether I liked it enough, but then came to the conclusion I play 99% docked so no really reason to buy it. With your situation it's a no brainer.

Two whole weeks of BOTW being completely fresh to you, I'm envious. Enjoy!

You can find an oled in vgood condition for £200. I managed to a get a fairly new one for £200 from gumtree and will sell my v1 patched switch which shouldn't be banned possibly £200 or more.
