The Little Mermaid (05/2023) live-action Disney remake

She has a amazing voice. Looks alright but no doubt the pitchforks will still come out.

Sings around the note too much for my liking but thats just something I absolutely hate. Something that girls always do when they can sing a bit. You're not Mariah Carey and even if you were I wouldn't like it!

Beyond that, the trailer they have put up is dark and a seemingly really poor quality 1080p resolution. As with almost every live action remake from disney, it will lose the charm of the original.

Must say if any Disney flick needs a remake, it’s this one. The original is absolutely appalling with its messaging for young girls - being serious here :p

Basically, all that matters is you’re beautiful - **** being happy with your lot, just go max for broke on a fantasy. You’ll never have the body proportions of Ariel, but never mind just keep focussing on your beauty. In fact, you don’t even need to speak to find your true love! :o

Not referring to the lead's skin colour here, but the trailer is really dark! Couldn't really see much of what was going on until I turned the brightness right up and even then it looked really dull. I guess it's supposed to make the surface world look more inviting? Still don't like it.

As for the skin colour... Meh, is anyone actually that bothered? Yes it's another lazy race swap, but I'm not aware of any particular reason why Ariel should be one race or another.

I fully expect it to be rubbish though, as all live action Disney remakes seem to be.

The original 1836 story is by Hans Christian Andersen in which he said "her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea" so the drawings made at the time show a "fair skinned" mermaid but "clear" doesn't really give a tangible idea of a skin tone to be fair. Most people will know the animated version and, if I had to guess, they'll base their opinions on skin tone around that rather than OG story.

I fully expect it to be rubbish though, as all live action Disney remakes seem to be.

Thats the worst bit for me, I enjoyed the animated films but the remakes have all been just terribly made, even outside of various changes that were made to suit Disney's target audience, and I think they just deserved better treatment than the Live action versions have given them.

Mulan is by far the worst of the live action remakes. I’m really not one for this whole “ewww Mary Sue” bandwagon that applies to any female character that exceeds expectations…. But god damn Mulan in that remake :o :o :o

One of my very least favourite films.
