The Man-Cave

only just seen your replies
http://www.carrgardenbuildings.co.uk/log-cabin-gallery.htm
above is bunch of pictures of what they can do. you can either have off the shelf or custom. mine had quite a few changes :)

was a bit of a trip to go and see their "factory area" but was good! i wanted to see it first hand before laying that kind of dough.

but more stuff arrives tomorrow!

their thoughts on their cabins
We manufacture our log cabins in 28mm, 44mm and 70mm thickness. As well as a number of standard sizes we can manufacture to your exact specification - normally for no extra marginal cost. We supply contemporary cabins with full length toughened glass or more classic design with georgian windows. You choose what type of window and where you want them, where positionally you want your doors and even partition walls. You can also decide what thickness logs to construct with hand what type of roof; single slope (pent) or an apex design, plus which shade of preservative you would like.

just thought i would add the review here

Pros
Very Comfortable
moveablity of all of the items is very good (arms, lift, back drop)
easy to put together
would buy again

Cons
Price, everyone wants stuff cheaper £199 would be great
lubar support can move, if you get up & sit back down would love a way to lock it. (not pratical but would be awesome

Misc
not really a con, but took half a day to get really comfy
i would like a thicker head support same as the lubar
for crosslegged people be prepared to take half a day to soften the side so it does not feel restricted

Heat, i sometimes get condensation on the inside in the mornings. but 10 mins of a/C and its gone. not had any issues with dampness.

I only heat the cabin, on work days in the evening from 17:00-17:30. longer if its colder outside.

what i would do differently, not much maybe room layout but building wise. maybe under floor heating. or possibly double walls. not needed but would be nice. though its lot more expensive.

just been doing a small project ready for the bigger this summer.
my ears are very sensitive to any noise i can hear high pitched noises not many people my age can. Even hear things my small nephews cant hear.

Project PC Further away. (Remote PC)
So my PC is:
11db idle
with stock 980 around 40DB load (would be 12DB without)
(tested with a Calibrated device)

so i wanted my PC further away.
So i bought the following:
2x 5M DP to DP cables (£15 pound each) i wanted to ensure 4K 60hz would work!
2x 5M USB 3.0 5Gbps Cable
1x ORICO 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub UK with 12V 4A Power Adapter
1x X-Rite i1Display Pro Calibrator for Monitors, Laptops, Projectors
The USB spilt into two!

The ColorMunki is to calibrate my ROG swift 4K & 1440P. Its very good and floors the spyderpro products with ease.

PC is in the bottom of the book case you can see the corner of it

Next Project:
Server Area/Media Center
OLED TV upgrade

Looking at this and the prices makes me think it would be quicker and cheaper than having a bricks and mortar build.
Probably looking at the same size (depends on the house we buy and its garden but most are double garage width) so a few questions now you've had it a while....

What are the running costs like?
How are the temperatures throughout the year?
How did you get the bathroom put in (I can't see the option on their website)?
I'm not a huge fan of the sauna look, but saw no option to change that. Plaster is obviously not an option though so are you stuck with the the wood?

1. Not to bad A/C could say is the most expensive but its turn itself off once it reaches temperature. only had 1 month where it was expensive (in the summer) to much A/C cold :D

2. So when A/C is on constant 20-22c, otherwise it can be very cold if i stay in overnight in the mornings. temperature is colder than outside recently. so 2-3c. & had condensation on the inside on very cold mornings/nights.

3. Most of the work i organised else where, eg plumbers/electricians etc. they only built it. i got everything else done.

4. Plaster no, Plasterboad+plaster possibly seen it done however, wood expands so plasterboard could warp/break at any point. The back 2 beams you see in the picture (vertical) can be adjusted at the rear to allow for extreme expansion but it can vary

5. for above http://www.carrgardenbuildings.co.uk/our-range/superlog-cabins/44mm-70mm-log-cabins.htm they shipp them pretty far & wide

I should have asked this last time, but what are the noise levels like from outside?

It would be used over a weekend with 6 people talking and having a laugh (all adults so no unruly yoofs) but I don't want to annoy the new neighbours (unless they annoy me first).

I'd probably go with the fully upgraded options as their costs are really good when I've compared it to others (I'd go see one but I live on the south coast and don't have the time right now)

depends on wood thickness but

my Cambridge Azur 651A at 50% with 2 speakers+ amp (tannoy DC6T SE + tannoy amp). 2 steps outside with door shut, cannot hear anything.

reason their cheaper is their the actual manufacturer. i visited their HQ & saw them being made :D

Hows the Bedec barn paint looking after a couple of years? How many coats were applied? Any flaking or fading? I've got a timber car port/garage and want to add extra waterproofing over the preservative already applied. Cheers.

so we done 1 thin coat when it was built. this year we done another. so 2 years?

if you done multiple coats that were decent i would say good 3 years.

inside is still fine with no repainting

no flaking happened just could see if fading in some places thats all.

I ran 2x Cat6a cables (50M) outdoor version in MDPE tubing :)

I get the full speed

only need 1, but 1 as backup!

goes from my Virgin Router to a Netgear 24 port switch. rthen i have a Netgear Router in Wifi Acess point mode via Wifi in garden + cabin
