surely Southgate does not get a look in at utd. I know we have been terrible for years with the excuse of rebuild, now unfortunately for 4-5 more years we will be asked to be patient and we are "rebuilding" again . They is not many managers out there that can bring man utd back up it's a massive job! Southgate no way near has it in him.

Plus I really really don't want to see us play 5 at the back week in week out
We'd need to buy 5 players to put at the back first, so there's that.

ETH spent most of his post match press conference talking about injuries - it's getting quite boring now.

Yes it's been bad on that front, but other teams have had extensive injury problems and managed to maintain some sort of playing style.

Whatever happens, that needs to be addressed.

Rooney said on Sky that he thinks quite a few of the injured players can probably play and are just protecting themselves. He seemed pretty sure about it too, so has probably heard something. Wouldn't surprise me.

Thought that statement from Rooney was shocking. Player abuse is becoming more and more of a problem and he's only inflaming it. Now we're going to get injured players being abused for not rushing themselves back and risking their health.

It doesn't even make sense really, we've had and injury crisis since the first game, have they been faking injuries all season?

And who could he possibly be talking about? Bruno? Who has been playing with a broken hand? Rashford who has played multiple months with injuries, most notably his back a few years ago.

Euro's coming up - players always start to protect themselves with nothing to play for in the league etc...

I'll go out on a limb here and say they will keep ETH. I still don't see who is the replacement if they sack him.

Southgate has the euro's - United can't wait till mid July for that to end and the appoint him as pre-season will have started already and it will look a shambles again if they are still waiting for a manager.

Tuchel seems bookies favourite but he's just been sacked at Bayern, didn't exactly rip it up before in the Prem, nothing about him screams "he's the man"

Potter ain't the man either - decent manager but job is too big for him - full rebuild needed

I don't see De Zerbi leaving - if he does - United will end up paying another £15 million on compo, and around the same to ETH as well.

Also - did anyone see the state of Old Trafford after the final whistle and the rain/water pouring into the stadium - Shambles from top to bottom at the moment.

No surprise - Been decent but need to look to a long term CB pairing....

Varane set to leave on free
Sort of mixed emotions about this. He was great when he played with Martinez and wasn’t injured. But he’s too unreliable to last a whole game now or a run of games and was on huge wages.

I don’t like the rumours about Bruno seeking a way out, though it is understandable.

And the cretin that is Luckhurst is doing the rounds on Højlund now too.

The joys of being a Utd fan continues unabated!

Good news really. His injury problems will only get worse and he’s a bit past it now.

Been a decent player for us but he hasn’t played enough, which isn’t exactly a surprise…

Also:

Not sure how reliable this is, but I wouldn’t object…

Their basis for that seems to be he has existing links, same as Southgate and Potter rumours. I'm pretty sure they don't know jack ****.

I don't want him. I think he's done a great job with Brentford but he's a bit of a **** and his football is boring.

He said the exact opposite recently, from his mouth. What journalist is making this up?
I meant to add the caveat of ‘if there’s any truth to it’. Of course it was from a less than reputable source!

Athletic reporting Martinez will likely be in the squad for the Newcastle game. To be honest, I’d rather he just didn’t play this season again and was 1000000% ready for next season.

And, I’m not a fan of Frank either.

Bruno will be staying. If an offer comes in for him it has to be 100m+ to sell him on. He is priceless for us, it showed in the last 2 games for sure. Man baby, yeah, but solid player for us, just needs to stop with the hero stuff and make simple passes though,

It's one of those where if he says he wants to go or his head has been turned, it's hard to keep him as his heart just won't be in it. We could force him to stay, but if he wants to go then he won't sign a contract which means his value drops the closer it gets to him leaving

I think he'll stay though, I don't think he wants to leave at all. I reckon he'll want to stay and see what happens with INEOS and see what they're going to bring.

Varane is sad, a hell of a centre back and been great for us...when he's been fit. At 31, he would have been young enough to keep on but we need stability, and he'll never give us that with his injury record. Sad to see go, but I think it's best for both parties

Not the biggest surprise considering his injuries. When fit to play he's good and only 31. I thought he was a year or two older. I think its his wages that have been the biggest block against club offering him a new deal. Ineos would have wanted to reduce his wages significantly to reflect his poor availability and Varane wouldn't have wanted to drop his wages as much as Utd wanted him to.

I think there's a good chance Casemiro goes too. The wages paid to the two of them must be well over £600-700k a week? Casemiro's mistakes and Varane's injuries means they aren't justifying their combined wages. I wonder who would take Casemiro on with his wages or will Utd release him and then pay the difference in wages until the end of his contract?
