It wouldn't be amazing because I have no idea if they have any clauses in their contracts about pay cuts on relegation or whether some would leave on a free and other would stay on silly money. Imagine if all the good players left and all the highly paid crap stayed.

That's probably the case. High paid player stay and cheaper ones leave.
Would be interesting to see what clauses are actually in the player contracts. Any sites offer that information? I know of a few that state wages per week/year and contract length, but not seen any with bonuses for xyz, or promotion/relegation/cup win clauses etc

I think it would be hilarious :) some people only learn the hard way.
