Indeed. Some players can make the transition and others just get caught out. Unsurprisingly when they return to those leagues their issues disappear again.

I think it would depend on what you are talking about really. I can fully believe that we didn't have a dedicated data scientist crunching the numbers on the squad, performances, transfer targets. I'm sure we were using data previously but there is a big difference between having a propre data scientist run devision and a couple of your guys looking at distances run, completed passes etc.
That's insane.

Not exactly helping me feel more positive about the club.

What a bunch of amateurs!

It's difficult to see when United will win next, Ipswich? After that? All look like loses (maybe a draw?), even before the injuries. Maybe the yoof will come good?

I think that's a gamble he may have to take.
Since Amorim had more training time with the team, performances have got worse. I think that shows how poor the players in this squad are generally. Their positional sense and spacial awareness are awful. Couple that with a lack of physicality and we have one of the poorest teams in the league. Combine that with a sense of entitlement that undoubtedly existed within some of them and the weight of expectation and you have one broken squad.

I have hope that Ugarte and Collyer can form a partnership. I think that could be solid. It would give us legs (not 100% convinced on Ugarte stamina) at the expense of some creativity. It would also allow the back three to advance a bit although Maguire will always limit that. Yoro will need to step up but games will help him.

Dalot remains a huge frustration. I think we saw what Dorgu can offer in an attacking sense but DD is so far from that and it's fundamental to the way Amorim wants to play. DD is just a thick footballer who can run a lot.

Mainoo being injured is not such a disaster. He's been overhyped and doesn't really look like an obvious fit in any of the available positions. He isn't quick, he isn't strong, doesn't tackle that well or carry the ball over distance. He's good at receiving the ball and getting out of tight spaces, has a calm finish when required. However, the lad doesn't seem the most robust. He's been injured quite a lot. Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing off a talented 19yo but he is way off being the next Cesc Fabregas ( the last teenager who was a genuine world level Central midfielder)

Up front is what it is. Maybe Chido gets some minutes as a back up. Kone might get some minutes when Ugarte is booked or knackered.

Amorim has to try and stop tinkering - these players cannot adapt that quickly. He needs to try and get a stable 11, keep Bruno away from central midfield and gradually expose some of the younger prospects. He needs to see if any will be good enough because we are skint and he isn't getting £200m next summer. If he plats some of them and they do well we can then make a decision - sell them on like Chelsea or harvest them as the next class of 92.

Having said all that - I can't see how we beat Moyes ball in the next one

Its a pretty good illustration though. He did that so many times at United and almost every single time he was closed down and didn't have close to that much time or space to get off a shot in his own time.

100% - he's doing nothing he wasn't doing at United - down the wing, cut in, shoot. Just gets tons of time in Spain to do that so he will score goals.

Hopefully has a decent season and boost his sale value.
£30/40 million for him
£20/£25 million for Mount if he can stay fit
£35/40 for Rashford

If they can do that in the summer - that's not too bad.... Rebuild from there.

you are only going to make money off rashford with those proposed figures, you still have a £33m book value for Mount and and £34m for Anthony, meaning you fall further into the P&S hole.

Nobody is surely paying £20m for Mount either.
£10-15m max for mount and no more than £25m for Anthony, this is possibly why they were so desperate for the squad cost cap to replace P&S as they are so close to failing P&S and it’s only going to get worse, due to the complete dross of a squad they have.

FFS...I'm constantly forgetting we have Mount. Genuinely like him as a player too. IMO one of the few in the squad with an intelligent read of the game which modern footballers clearly need to have at the top end.

Unfortunately I fear he is another crock.

This is how Man U fans feel inside

Hopefully it's not the familiar story of a manager out of their depth and buying all players from old team/poorer league and then later wondering why they can't cut it in the EPL.

That is what I wonder too. It is rather worrying. I understand his formation is different but it isn't like he is asking the players to perform brain surgery. You would expect to see some form even if it was inconsistent.

Bar the typical low block against big teams which is easy I haven't seen one game since he has taken charge that has been convincing.

Well we all know the players are crap, some of us have been saying this since before EtH was sacked. It was clear that it wasn't just EtH that was the problem. Have the scouts been fired too? It's alarming to hear that the data analytics team is relatively new but that probably partly explains why recruitment is so poor. Has that changed? Time will tell. Nothing so far suggests it has. £200m spend with a manager you fire weeks later.

The problem isn't just that the players are crap. It is compounded by the contracts given to these players which will make them harder to move on.
