The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

It really is just incredible how bad they manage the club. It’s actually pretty funny, just means less money they can take out of the club at the end of the day.

Thats the thing that really confuses me. I know that plenty of companies are run badly, even massive ones but ultimately United should be dominating English and European football simply due to our financial power. The main reason we aren't is because the football side of the business is run by utterly incompetent people. I would imagine that over the past 9 years we have wasted/lost ~1bn in buying bad players, sacking managers and not winning/doing well in competitions.

For owners that don't really care about anything but money you would think that putting a structure in place to maximise that would be very high on their list.

No one is paying 50 million for martial, he cost Man Utd that when they bought him and he's done nothing in the 6 years he's been there, especially when he is on 250k pw

He got 23 goals in the 19/20 season whilst having a few months of injury and when he is on his pomp he is as good as anybody. His problem is he is massive form player. I am sure if he went to a club where he was going to be centre of attention he would be able to get up to 30 goals a season.

He is only 25 so still very young. In today's market where a Joelinton is 40 million. 50 million sounds about right.

Who remembers his debut goal against Liverpool! Such a shame it never panned out. But I agree he needs to go to a club where he just plays every game regardless.

You're forgetting how incompetent United are when negotiating sales of players.

We'll hold out for 50 million, no-one will pay it (likely since the clubs that would have him won't want to give him 250k a week), we then won't budge or accept any offers. He'll then sit on the bench doing nothing whilst we pay him a fat wage and then he'll refuse to sign a contract until it gets to a few months before it expires and throw 400k at him to avoid him leaving for nothing.

23 in 48 appearances, hardly as good as anybody. He then followed that up with 7 in 36 last season. It would take a special kind of stupidity for somebody to spend anything close to £50m on him. Had anybody been willing to spend even £30m on him then Utd would have sold him a long time ago.

Not a chance. At £30m there would have been a whole host of clubs who would have taken a punt on him. Especially in the PL that is chump change. Even abroad that isn't big money for the big clubs. His wages might have been a stumbling block but I reckon that United A), haven't been willing to sell and B) wanted £60m+ if they were even going to consider selling.

I think you are trying to apply common sense to Uniteds dealings Baz. We gave Ole a new 3 year contract this year for gods sake. We have a fantastically irrational view of our own assets and their value and how we should protect them. Phil Jones is still getting paid silly money not to play? When was the last time he played more than a game or 2?

Who are these clubs that would have gone for him? Nobody that would see £30m as chump change and nobody that could or would pay the £10m+ per season wages he's on.

I agree Utd make some odd decisions but for 2-3 years you had a manager that was waiting to drive him to the airport, there's no chance that you were refusing to sell him. He only stayed because nobody would pay any meaningful amount for him. It's pretty much the same story with Pogba. I have no doubt that Utd would have sold him in each of the last two summers had anybody been willing to pay north of £50m for him.

Its getting a bit ridiculous how long appointing one of the most respected managers and coaches in world football is.

Apparently we are having to go to an independent panel because he hasn't managed a club in the last 5 years. You seriously couldn't make it up. Hes not some random person that could be ************ about his credentials or being snuck into the country on the sly.

What on earth are this panel going to decide.

Appearances isn't full 90 minutes. He was also out injured for 2-3 months of that season. He would have seen 30 goals easy which isn't "chump change".

I know I'm late to the party but looking at Wiki it seems like Salah got 23 in 48 that season as well. Are you saying Salah is no good? ;)

I'm not sure how he missed that much football when he featured in 32 PL games. Assuming there were no other games where he was in the matchday squad but didn't feature, he could only possibly have been injured for around 4 weeks.

No. And your Salah comparison is useful here - in Martial's best ever season, which he's never got close to replicating and while playing Europa League football, he could only equal the goal return of a top forward's worst season.

Well he was as good as Salah that season playing in a team that finished 33 points behind Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's a top forward but he's better than you give him credit for. Lot of his appearances are either as substitute or he gets substituted during the game. I don't watch Liverpool much but I expect Salah usually plays the full 90min.

He scored as many goals in that season - he's no where near as good as Salah or any other top forward.

And he's no better than I give him credit for. He's a talented player that hasn't and won't fulfill his potential because he's lazy and doesn't have the hunger or desire of somebody like Salah.

He needs a change of club for sure, I am pretty he would do a lot better if he landed at a team where he just played every game regardless of form,

He was always getting subbed on or off, he does come across as moody and lazy at times, but you can also see he is frustrated. He 100% needs to know he is main man and will be playing week in for the full 90 mins.

Hoping Newcastle come in with 40 million bid :D

A good club can't afford to play someone so hot and cold for 90 minutes every week. He's done nothing since he arrived at united to he warrants a fixed place in the starting 11.

Other clubs see that and won't touch his 250k wages. Nuts the amount he's on for how little he contributes.

Yeah Newcastle are the only hope in Jan :D

Martial has talent, but isn't consistent and has a lousy attitude. He'll never amount to anything, he's another Balotelli.

Which is a shame because he is easily more talented than Rashford. If only you could combine the two. Not that Rashford is a bad player but martial could make it effortless sometimes.
