Yea, went to the dealer and got some OEM ones, cheap enough i wouldn't dream of putting them on the car otherwise
Car came with the standard 16" Sport wheels, its such a big car the wheels looked lost, i looked around and the only other VW wheels i liked are fitted to the W8 which are the wrong offset, don't care for aftermarket so it was between the RS4 & RS6 wheels really.
I personally think cause of the size and shape of the car they look quite good, but as with anything its all down to personal taste.

The mx5 is fantastic track toy, done a few tweaks here and there and have a harddog roll bar and goodrich hoses coming for it in the next couple of weeks. I like the idea of when something breaks replacing it with a more performant part (suited to track driving).
My van is even lowered on Koni shocks and eibach springs, de-catted, straight through SS exhaust, 18s and loads of tweaks here and there.
In total I have probably lost a lot less money than anyone who purchased a 1-3 year old new car would lose in depreciation and I fund most of my mods with my company car allowance instead of getting a new car.

I bought the Golf as my daily runabout and it's supposed to be comfy and blend in but with such a huge variety of aftermarket stuff it's hard to resist. I've already seen some nice coilovers and 18's that I like.....

funny this thread should appear i am about to spend about 1500 on bits for my 200sx certainly a bug alright. 
I really fancy a third car (2002-2005 polo tdi) and to make the mx track only. While the car would be cheap to buy and run I know I wouldn't be able to resit tweaking it .

I've already got three cars though. The Elise with hard suspension, the MGZR with hard suspension and 18's, and the Golf with nice comfy suspension and fat tyres so I'm trying to resist ruining it.
Although apparently a 30mm drop with a decent suspension kit won't make it too hard.....
I think I approach things different - when things break, I try to find better parts. Like for example, if my car fails the MOT on a worn brake hose or something, then I'll fit braided hoses - seeing as they'd be off anyway. Same for the front brakes - once the pads are knackered on them, I'll fit different calipers
I'm much like that. I struggle to justify the expense of modding for the sake of it, but if something needs replacing I'll usually replace it with something better rather than a standard component.

As soon as you modify it, it becomes pointless. As it is, it just about make sense for you. As soon as you start handling mods you'd have been better off just buying something that handled in the first place.
Leave it alone.
Don't have the bug atm, mainly because insurance would rape me even more so than it does now, and I don't have an expendable income, also not got the courage yet.
What I would enjoy about it:
-my own project, see improvements
-make it my car
But realistically I can't see myself doing stuff too seriously. Mainly because financially it doesn't make much sense, resale value is pretty poo compared to how much goes in. It would take a lot of my time etc...
Having said that, I really enjoy watching other people tinker with their toys

You can't really consider re-sale too much when modding!
That said. I bought my van for 4.5k, a recent valuation put it at 6.5k spent 2k on mods and repairs so far.
Bought my mx5 for £3350 spent £700 on parts and servicing it, including rollbar, brake pads, tyres and brake lines and driving it to 8 track days in 2007 and by the end of this year it will still be worth roughly the same.
I could go out tomorrow and buy a new car and lose 40% of the price tag in 1-3 years....... It's all horses for courses and I very much treat it as a hobby. There is a huge satisfaction to having something personal that you have sunk a lot of time and effort into. There is also something terrifying about parking it somewhere shady though
