The modification bug

I have it....I just loving making it mine, and to stand out from the rest of all those other focus on the roads, in a good way of corse!

Ben.

Not really, no. Those features are vaguely the same shape (apart from the grill, which is nothing alike), but the same can be said for lots of current hatchbacks...

Just updone the rear brakes and blocked the EGR valve on my van. The difference is awesome! The van now runs far better and quieter without re burning those nasty exhaust gases!

The TIP pipe is now on, has smoothed things out a bit and feels more lively. Front splitter is also fitted!! Oh... and the TT arch liner vent to keep the intercooler cooler ;)

I'm trying so hard not to start blowing more cash but it's really difficult lol.

So many little things I see that soon add up, can spend about 6k in my head in a second on just a couple of bits :(

Lovely motor ethos but you need to get hold of some 17's for it.

Thanks, yes- would really like to get some 17s for it....

My 16s are in mint condition and all the tires (Dunlop SP sport 2000) are all 5-6mm so plenty left.

Wouldn't mind spending like £50-100 (max) upgrading but i'd want to have a good set of tires with the 17s too  ...which won't happen.

I know that feeling, that feeling alone is keeping me from owning three cars though! That is a good thing.

Polo £5-6k
Bigger Intercooler - £350
Remap - £250-350
Koni TA shocks and HR springs £700
New alloys £300-1000
New ICE - £1000
Bodywork work - £600

Suddenly a 5k car comes out at close to 10k which makes 0 sense and therefore I can sanely say I won't be bothering (this year :D)

I know, sort it out!! Have you done any more to yours, yet, lordrobs?

Nope, was going to get it booked in for a remap early this year but it was too much of an increase in the insurance for me to justify it to myself (and SWMBO) :( In all honesty I'm finding it adequate pace wise, I would like to try a rear ARB to try and dial out a touch of the understeer but I'm worried about making it a bit too lively at the back end.

Its due a service soon but I'm not sure whether to get my regular guy to sort it, send it to the main dealer or take it to somewhere like Jabba for a proper fettling session. I've got the trial version of VAG-COM so I might run a diagnostic before hand and if nothing flags up send it to my usual bloke for a full service.

Lordrobs, have you tried a different insurer? Chris Knott gives 10% off for briskoda member and seems good for mods. Ok, they don't have the best reputation... but still.

What mileage has yours done? I plan on taking mine to skoda until it hits 100kish I reckon. Really impressed with their prices/services so far. (£130 for the 60k service including brake flush/fluid).

I doubt Jabba would offer anything massively over skoda / a good local indy other than a higher price (awesome for remaps though or upgrades though).

The problem I have with the insurance is that I get a very good quote (considering I've got cover for 14k/yr inc. unlimited business use) but my insurer doesn't like mods, having said that even though it went up a large percentage it was still the most competetive I could find.

My worry with the servicing is that the previous owner did average miles in the first year then very rarely used the car for any real distance. Therefore after the first service he self serviced it at his garage every 8 months so the servicing isn't on schedule, its probably had an extra 2 services to what it should have had over the years. I'm not sure how this would fit in with main dealer servicing- should I get a full service done now and then alternate between full and oil services from now on or I could see if I could swap to variable servicing. Might have to give them a call and see what they say.
