the most difficult games to learn...

I'm not a quick learner when it comes to games, but there are a few that are particularly bad:
a. Dwarf Fortress: couldn't get the hang of irrigation, couldn't understand how to periodically flood areas, etc. Eventually went to their wiki and just copied their walkthrough move-by-move in order to create a tunnel to the underground river and flood some fields to cultivate. However, I accidentally left a little hole in the wall unplugged, so the river flooding didn't stop and the floodgates and only flood the room it was meant to, but went on, flooded my entire fortress, and then spilled out into the outside and FLOODED THE ENTIRE WORLD! All my dwarfs drowned except for a couple who had climbed on top of carts and things. You'd think the river would run dry or the world would eventually dry out, but no, it stayed flooded until all my castaway dwarves had drowned. gg me, I flooded the whole world. Up yours, Noah, where's your ark now?
b. I remember downloading the Homeworld 2 demo. Played throuigh the tutorial level. One minute it was teaching me how to use my radar and select ships. Then the very next moment a jumpgate opens and a massive alien fleet jumps in, and I'm expected to fight them off. Needless to say, it broke my morale so thoroughly I deleted the demo and never bought the game.

LockOn sat on my system for an age just could not see anyway in eg. building mission e.t.c BUT when i came across IRONHANDS tuts all came good realy good and now i love it.

ps check him out > so easy when some one shows you how.

thx

"C&C mass attack by numbers style doesn't work."

Sorry mate, I disagree. I have played both games quite substantially and while the Command and Conquer series may seem like that kind of game it really isn't like that in the completive scenario. Download some replays from the link below and you will see what I mean. Very strategic. Rush tactics, micromanagement, hit and run, map control, resource control, build orders.

I am not saying Command and Conquer games are less or more strategic than Rome. All I'm saying is that winning in Generals/Red Alert is quite difficult if you are up against decent players and the "attack by numbers style" won't get you far. The simple premise to the game doesn't make it simple to master.

Nice screen shot by the way.

Pro Evo games in my opinion are the hardest to play, it takes loads of practice if you are a total newcomer to the game to even score a goal! Excellent game's though.

If playing against humans, absoultly. But the computer "AI" is still pretty limited. I've played Dune 2000 and it's pretty much the same. They still send one or two troopers directly into the path of rocket turret defenses

Mostly simulators. IL2, GTR, GPL.. Lomac was easier than any other sim I've ever played to get into.

X3, not so much difficult, just long winded.

Elite.. months, if not years before I 'mastered' that game.

Oddly enough - Transport Tycoon.. took me a month or so before I got a network going that didn't make me bankrupt.

Silent Hunter 3 was a difficult one, I just didn't have the patience.

there has yet to be a single rts with a ai that is actually a tactical challenge, they just make the games harder by allowing the computer players to cheat a bit more for each difficulty setting u go up

i have still yet to learn how to do pretty much anything in lomac.. i was ok with the a10 as that was shooting ground targets and i worked out how to drop bombs.. but air to air still baffles me

What I find annoying and hard to pick up is when playing different FPS games and the key binds as a default for all of the major movements (crouch etc) are one button out (F for use instead of E) I always forget which is which and also forget to change the damn controls as well. :o

I find flight sims impossible to play.

Use a joystick. I'm pretty good in combat flight sims, used to trash my mate constantly in F-22 :D Blasted him a few times as he was taking off (took so long to take off I reached his airstrip before you could gain height)

I find C&C pretty simple, as you only have to keep track of your "homebase" and your army.

Try playing Rome Total War! :D

squiffs nasty big image was here.

You need to use proper battle tactics, C&C mass attack by numbers style doesn't work.

Pah you play Vanilla RTW, n00b :p

Enjoy your burning pigs and arcade fake history game :p

What's all this Vanilla player business? Has it something to do with the taste of the box or something?!?!?!?

il-2 took me about two days to understand and after 6 years i', still learning.
i've only dabbled with LOMAC but i reckon if i devoted a week or two to it i'd be making progress.
F4,falcon 4..........hmmmm.......probably a week would be needed to begin to understand the air to air radar.
