The most important vote of your gaming life

I'm still curious as to what makes gordon the best character ever in some peoples' eyes. Greatest games ever, very likely, but i see nothing about him that even makes him an average character. Anyone care to enlighten me? I'm not being judgemental, just honestly curious.

The same thing that would have made Snake the greatest game character in the world. 65,000 opinions. Nothing more.

You can't argue with the fact that most people play MGS because Snake is in it. No one is playing Half Life because you get to play as Freeman. HL is very good at making you the character.

Hell, octocon is abetter character than Freeman and he wets his pants when confronted by a cyborg ninja.

PC owners are going to vote Freeman even if they have never played a MGS game. The votes are stupid.

I had to pick up on this as no one else did...

You mean like every MGS player is going to vote for snake even if they've never played one of the Half-Life games?

People keep saying that Freeman has no back story, but I've found loads of it by searching and listening carefully while playing the games.

Just because MGS crams the story down your throat with half hour long cut scenes, doesn't mean that Half Life doesn't have one.

Gordon Freeman is a great character, part of the charm is you become him.
You're not playing "as him, you are him. I often found myself answering when Freeman didn't talk.

People are saying "they voted for the game not the character", well in that case, How the hell did Half Life beat MGS? Snake would slice freeman a new one and complete half life with his weenus.

This is just like the 360 vs PS3 argument threads, some people prefer Freeman, some people prefer Snake... We're obviously never going agree on who's best, but surely that's the whole point of these competitions? People preferred Freeman to Snake (but again, it was very close), for whatever reason...

But yeah, some of us prefer Freeman, some of us prefer Snake... End of. :p :)
