The nervous wait to exchange....

Are you guys using quidco?
I have racked up about £300 in cashback from buildings/contents insurance, internet/bb/tv. It seems that moving house is racked with transactions that can gain a lot back through these sorts of sites :D

That can take a while as they will request things like bank statements and id, which has to be sorted out then mailed that step alone can take 10 days or so, then once they have everything the decision is pretty fast one working day in our case.

Getting a little worried now, 7 weeks in and we have our mortgage offer, our survey has been done. Everything seems in order from our side but we just found out that the other side are still awaiting their mortgage offer (apparently they have had it verbally!)

Am I being a stress Eric here, surely they should have had their offer in writing by now?

There are a number of things in the process than can slow it down, gifted deposits, missing forms, change of status/circumstances.
Im am sure it is just one of those things. They will be more worried than you! You could always reach out and speak to them directly if you want to be re-assured. I did at one point, and it put my mind at ease having spoken to the people themselves and "humanised" the process a bit.

Thanks Malt, that's not a bad idea.

As it was the seller who showed us around previously I might arrange another viewing in the pretence of measuring up. Hopefully it would be him again. If not I'll just give him a call.

Thanks

No worries, I think the estate agencies/legal peeps always try to keep everyone at arms length to keep control. But at the end of the day its another human you are transacting with, and these agencies/legal people are working FOR you.

In my case, I just happened to be passing, and the guy was washing his car, so I quickly parked up, and said hi and we had a nice chat about it all. The guy ended up saying "I hope you are as happy here as we have been" and that was well before exchange, so it made me feel (a little bit) more secure :D

Two bits of good news today.

I mentioned in a previous post that the Mrs opened a complaint with our lenders (Accord) for faffying around. After getting all their info on our finances etc they kept coming back for more. Each time days apart and causing more delays by having to put our file back into the processing queue.

At the time she got £55 compensation. Not earth shattering but at least an admission of guilt. Anyway, she refused to allow them to close the complaint until they had fully processed our application. In doing so someone more senior contacted her and she went into a rant.......the compensation then got upped to £100........that cheque arrived today

We also found out the sale of our flat should be done next week

Good luck with Accord, Probably the worst company, bank or whatever circus they come from to deal with, they messed me around for months until i told the director to shove it, got a mortgaqe with another lender in days i mean days.

Liam at LT-Mortgages Is a top bloke and highly regarded on Pistonheads (Sarnie)
I'm a owner/Director so am treated as self employed. It can get pretty complicated but he's managed to secure us a mortgage.

The agent works for the vendor not the buyer.

The solicitors work for each of their clients and not both. :)

I was referring to buying a house in general, not just from the perspective of the buyer :)

I should have the keys to my new place on Friday, I popped over to the house to check the commute on a normal work day, and found the place was totally empty, no one there. So should not be any problems with the vendors being out in time, so just bank processes to wait for!

Ok, Survey was done yesterday and should have the mortgage offer beginning next week. Solicitors are all done on their side, they are also just waiting on the mortgage offer! After a slow few weeks, i'm now again excited.
