Regarding the internet gif - bear in mind that the US actually has pretty poor average connection speeds in comparison to a lot of developed countries - mostly caused by a lack of competition. There's a lot of places where a license has been sold by local government to one supplier, who then has no incentive to improve speeds or keep reasonable prices.
The evening usage definitely follows a different pattern to the rest of the world though...
