IIRC .gifv is something imgur have recently created, they are now converting .gifs from animated images to .mp4 or .webm videos upon upload and allowing them to be referenced in hyperlinks as .gifv

GIFV has been around for quite a while, Imgur didn't create it. They just started supporting it. If only the forum would be updated to this decade so we could use it too

Why has my post above been deleted and an "animated gifs, you're doing it wrong" message left in it's place by a moderator? The thread's title clearly states "The Animated IMAGE thread" not 'The Animated gifs thread', and my post contained animated images.

So exactly what are the rules?
