The new "Edit the RAW" thread.

ok went to photoshop (cs5.1) clicked updates. it did some updates. I did a restart. Still getting same message. No more updates on PS available.

?

I kept it pretty simple. Bumped exposure/saturation on the man, tighter crop, cloned out the suitcase. It's a really nice image to play with :)

Good idea. Otherwise it'll get messy. How do we decide who contributes?

How are you interpreting this? One person and one person only can post an image a week, or anyone can post 1 image a week?

The former is a good way to ensure people won't bother posting at all, the latter would be fine.

What is the recent incessant need to apply rules to a formerly free flowing forum? It's getting beyond silly now. All I see is bickering and rule suggestions. How about leaving photographers to post their images?

El Dude, I agree with you... Get your image up mate. Otherwise we will have 50 pics of the tin man.. It's a cool pic, but let's vary it up!!

I agree too, no need for rules, just have fun!!

1 a week sounds good to me. I had originally interpreted it as one image per week total, hence my concern about who would get to post said image, but I think one image/person/week sounds like a good compromise. The worry is that you get so many images that it becomes disjointed and loses focus.

Yeah, my suggestion was one per week. People don't have time to do one as much during the week.

Also, as suggested, whichever one the owner prefers more seems like the logical idea for who to go next with a raw, unless they want to pass or something.

You still haven't said what you mean by one a week. One person posts one image and no one else can post an image until the second week, or each person can post an image per week? If you're doing the latter you'll either get no one posting, or will force several of the same threads (if people even fancy posting a RAW file to begin with).

The worry is that you get so many images that it becomes disjointed and loses focus.

That's how threads work :) If you encourage people to post this sort of thing you can't restrict it to one person posting one image a week or you'll get people posting their own threads too.

To be honest I don't see it taking off really as there aren't that many people posting anymore and rules being forced upon us make us lose incentive to post, compounding the lack of content on this board.

How about we just let people post a thread and let it run it's course without people jumping in asking for rules to be applied? With the exception of no insulting each other or blatant trolling that's been going on recently.

@42zx Loving both of those edits but especially the black and white. It suits the square crop and the processing is very good. Nicely done.

Very nice photo Devrij, nice way to remind me of the capabilities of the kit lens.

First I straightened the horizon, cropped it to 21*9 then I got rid of the couple on the left and the couple pushing their baby in the background, not that it's particularly noticeable at web sizes! Then I just did a reasonably mild bit of colour processing, bumped up the blues to bring out the skies and sharpened.

^^^ Paris?

Castle Howard, right here in the UK. Beautiful place and I recommend a visit! Really cool to see what you guys have done with it after spending so much time on it myself I kind of lost sight of what other directions I could have gone in.

Recovered sky, straitened and lifted shadows via curves in LR.
Adjusted contrast and sat and colour in photoshop. Added grain in LR

That's very close to what I did, although I think I went with the tighter crop that cut the tree out, although it messes with the symmetry a bit. I'll post my edit up tomorrow when I get a moment. Ha! I cloned out the old couple as well (just noticed ksanti did as well)!

If I get it this week, I'll post up a RAW from the D800 when I get it. Not been doing an obscene amount of serious shooting as it would seem a waste to shoot now on the 5D.
