That's very close to what I did, although I think I went with the tighter crop that cut the tree out, although it messes with the symmetry a bit. I'll post my edit up tomorrow when I get a moment. Ha! I cloned out the old couple as well (just noticed ksanti did as well)!

I suppose the tree is technically a 'distraction', but considering the composition it adds 'balance' to the image.

Had a go with #1

Too much empty space lower right, the woman completed it I think but maybe it works? Undecided!

I think it works. Although the woman kind of added balance, I didn't like that I could sort of see her face. If she was walking the other way, I'd leave her in.

I had never considered cropping out the reflection, but I actually really like the balance of the image that way.

This was my edit from when I took this, so it looks like I left the tree in after all (although I found another edit with it cropped tight)

Being a complete noob to editing.. how did ojc10212 get the sky so blue and the hedges so green.. ?

As mentioned above, recover highlights and up the saturation on those colours, but I suspect he may have dropped the luminance on the sky to darken it a bit as well (targeted adjustment tool, right click, luminance), although I started getting some horrendous artifacts after pushing the sliders too far so be careful with that tool.

Just watch out for the horrendous CA in the tree when you up the saturation :p The kit lens has a lot of weaknesses, and unfortunately the edges of the frame are particularly prone to CA. It was so bad that even after correcting it with the lens profile in RAW, I still had to paint a desaturated layer over all the edges of the tree to remove it completely.
