The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I've always liked the Thinktank stuff. I have the v1 of the & myself for many years. The V2 looks good though

Think I'm returning it. Love the bag so much, everything about it feels quality, but I find the shoulder strap digging into my collar bone plus the bag feels a bit heavy. So I feel a bit weighed down and with some discomfort. The problem with the strap is that the non padded edge trim is digging in. And the padding looks thick but isn't particularly when I press into it with my fingers.

My old bag has a very comfortable strap with no edge trim, just padding from edge to edge, and the bag is a tad lighter and longer with better weight distribution. Real shame. Have now been considering the Peak Design Everyday Sling 10 L where the strap looks super comfortable and similar to my old strap, and the bag is about the same weight as my old bag. But I'm not a fan of the lack of side pockets, no rear zipper and no pull over flap to open it. Just found another bag which seems to tick pretty much all boxes, the Tenba Messenger DNA 11.

Why not just get a pad for the strap? I have a couple of Aircel pads and a full strap that I just use with whatever bag I'm using.

Well the bag feels a bit too heavy for me anyway, but certainly a more comfortable strap would help. I'd rather have a lighter bag and a matching strap for the aesthetics, i.e the one that comes with it. But can you link me to those Aircel pads you use? I've never heard of them but would be interested to see them.

Can't remember exactly what I got mine, but Google on the Well-Known-Auction-Site for "AIRCELL ASP018N", that looks pretty similar. They also do full straps for bags, guitars etc. Useful things to have even outside of photography!

Oh wow, looks like they switched from metal to plastic hardware, to save weight? Hmmm, probably a bit but the metal hardware they use are so nice! Makes the bags have a very premium feel.

I love their bag, the 10L one that fits a laptop is very tempting.

Its recommended to upgrade the catch to the Fidlock one for $8 with any order though. That looks cool

Thanks buddy, I've just got home so will take a look on the flea.

I am fancying the Wotancraft pilot. Weighs 840g vs the 1.2kg of the thinktank.

That looks awesome. My kind of colour and aesthetic. Weight is perfect. Strap looks pretty good. Will have to check out prices but anything between £100 and £150 is fine. I really hope it has a rear zipper pocket, I find that very useful for putting my travel card and keys in.

It has two i think from memory inc a hidden one for valuable's, money etc. The smaller one is £134 so I think I will give one a punt myself.

Excellent yes, it has a rear zipper. Not sure I like the front cover locking clip, lack of velcro and lack of zips for added security. But I'm considering buying it as I like the look, and the canvas seems almost as nice as the Thinktank. Where are you buying from? The only UK place I found is this

Are you getting the 7L? That's £124.68 or are you adding shipping to get £134?

Yeah getting it from there but upgrading the front locking clip to the magnetic sliding one which I think makes it £134.

Ah ok. Yeah, I want to change to the magnetic clip. I can't see it on their website though? I might also only need the 7L instead of the 10 if it can take camera and 3 lenses with a bit of room to spare for a sandwich and a few bits. I thought the 10L was under 1g but it's the 7L that is 840g. Mind you, I was in Oxford Street today and popped into Jessops. I tried a Vanguard Veo Range 38 and that was 1.2kg yet felt really light. Good bag, ticks a lot of boxes but doesn't quite do it for me looks wise.

I thought about the 10l but the 7l is big enough IMO. If I wanted to carry as much stuff as I could get into a 10l bag then I have a rucksack for that, much easier than all that weight over your shoulder.

Its only 2cm less wide and 2cm less tall than my Thinktank 7. I can get 3 full frame lens and my sony a1 body into that fine.

The 10l one is 38 x 11 x 24 cm internal so 6cm longer and 2cm higher but still 2cm less wide than the thinktank 7. I already try and put too much weight in my thinktank 7 sometimes. I once had 3 meaty glass primes, all my spare batteries, my tripod plus other accessories in my think tank and I think it weighed around 10kg! way too much for a shoulder bag!

Will encourage me not to overpack!

Lol yeah, 10kg is a lot of weight! Yes, thanks, from what you said it seems the 7L will be big enough.

You said you're upgrading to the magnetic clip. I just called Photospecialist and got put through to the Netherlands. He said he didn't know about the Fidlock magnetic clip nor is it mentioned on their website, but he would find out and email me.

Also, they're temporarily out of stock of both sizes (I just noticed it on their pages) and he will let me know in a couple of days when new stock is due in. Did you order yours before it went out of stock? And have you ordered the Fidlock clip directly from Wotancraft in the US?
