The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

So I've been wanting this lens for about 3 years. I rented one 2 years ago and it was amazing, so after this I defo knew I wanted it :)
Today it arrived and this is some sample first outing images taken using it - it looks good !

I'll be using it to photograph my sons footy team matches, his karting and airshows.

Nice shots!

So, 2024 marks 20 years I have been into photography, purely in the digital age.
During this time I've had lot's of gear : expensive fast primes, high end macro lenses & lights, long telephoto F2.8 sport lenses and starting out with a Canon system, then switching over to Sony.

Now 'proper' photography is something I do occasionally, so value for money is the priority. But when I do it, I still want quality sharp photos.
This is my current camera gear, which gets used for sports and family portraits, when the iPhone doesn't cut it.

Going into 2025, I'm interested in seeing what Sony will bring with the new A7 Mk5 and some of the new cheaper 85mm F1.4 / F1.8 prime lenses look interesting too.

I love my 200-600 and probably my most used lens. One upgrade you might be interested in if you have any plans to shoot from a tripod I highly recommend the iShoot replacement lens foot which is Arca-Swiss compatible.

Sony A1 arrived yesterday, first pics i took are ones of pics of my old a7r3 going on eBay LOL.

THE GRIP IS AWSOME ON IT!!

It’s built like a proper tank now!!

Viewfinder is nice and finally the menu’s are fully touchable.

Will give it a proper go on the weekend if weather is fine for a photo walk.

Now i need a battery grip and cfast cards….
Yeah it does. Reminds me of the z9 or the D850.
Just out of interest there is a new firmware today with some useful adjustments : https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/Default.aspx?Cat=Sony-Firmware-Updates

Focus bracketing is nice to have but should have been implemented a long time ago, ie in the 1.* range of firmware updates rather than 4 years after release.

So erm, I wanted a more sturdy tripod for shooting video that my lightweight Sirui carbon travel tripod. Saw this come up on the bay collect only, they accepted £135, just picked it up.

Manfrotto 504HD head and 546 legs. They were being used in a church, apart from one plastic knob that's broken it's mint.

Perhaps gone a little too far along the axis of lightweight <-> sturdy mind :p Might need to move it on and get something a bit more luggable, but will give it a go

Time to apply for a job for the BBC.
It looks pretty daft with the A7C sat on it :p

I have had my carbon travel tripod topple over in the wind a couple of times, which could have been very expensive, so I think I'll live with this weight for a bit.

Now I feel like I should be getting a long lens to make use of it..... Hmm

I see Canon have finally sorted out the RF 24mm 1.4 after all this time.

Would be nice to try before I buy.
