The *NEW* Photoshop speed test thread. This sample image will make your computers cry!

I've no idea yet, won't get them until tomorrow. Based On the one review I bothered reading they ran fine at 1600mhz at 1.5v so should be ok for Sandy Bridge.

They also overclocked to about 2100mhz, can't complain for 50 quid!

Hmmm...machine is showing it's age now :p

give me a couple of weeks... ;)

The core components for this computer must be about 3.5 years old now! Good to see it's still faster than the Mac Pro's of the same age :p Would be nice to move to SB, but I think this still has a good couple of years left in it yet. Still takes me a few fairly large files to slow it down.

I re-tested with 80 and 90% RAM allocation and got the same time so looks like there is a ceiling somewhere, maybe I'm CPU limited from 70% onwards or quite possibly RAM bandwidth which makes more sense as the RAM can only populate as fast as it is specced!

Quite an interesting test actually!

Looking forward to version 2 of the action file because the author says there's a trick up its sleeve and I reckon it has something to do with GPU acceleration!

Been talking at work today about getting in some new SB Mac Pros when they're released, will be interested to see how it runs on one of those with 24GB ram. Probably slower than the OC'd 2500k's if past history is anything to go by!

Was just under 23s with 50% allocation.

Does seems massively RAM based. My i7 machine with 6GB only managed 76 secs yet southy1978 with the same chip but 12GB of RAM does the test in less than half that time....

Any more or any less RAM allocated and the time went up, getting another 8GB sometime this week so will post the results when it arrives.

Photoshop is massively RAM based. My Q6600 machine with 16GB of RAM does it in a little over half your time.

MilanoChris I'm on to you! *sets i5 to 4.5GHz*

:p

I could go Voltage crazy and push for 5GHz but I like to benchmark my machine in its 24.7 state.

Figure chasing gets expensive, fast. :p

But feel free, however PS does seem to make use of all 8 threads so you might struggle?

I'm at 21.92 at 4.3, I'm sure an extra few seconds is doable from the bandwidth the extra 200MHz gives hehe :p

Not too fussed though! No point upping just for a benchmark, post above was more of a joke hehe :)

I did see it up to 80% at one point.

I'd also say that looking at the results, the SSD based systems seem to show a pretty decent improvement as well.

Got my extra 8GB today and ran the test again, quite a significant improvement especially during the upsharp mask and guassion blur stages.

Allocating more RAM made no real difference.
