the new Skyscraper in Dubi .. ( have a look )

Man, I think come the distant future, say 2010, they'll be able to create such things. But surely this is mere science fiction.

......Oh wait.

Quite cool. Dad used to work for Atkins... didn't think they did much architecture though (and I wouldn't be surprised if they outsourced the design).

Has anyone been to Dubai?

What's it like?

Imagine a hot Milton Keynes with a load of empty skyscrapers added, fast food restaurants and building sites. :)

I had a good time there, but that was due to the company rather than the location. It is probably the most overrated place I've ever been to. Ever so tacky.

It's like someone made a large Arabian theme park, there is no soul there at all.

Practically slave laborers over there building the things.

By all accounts, the arabs over there heavily rely on immigrant slave labour:(

Wicksta is right tho, It is basically a expensive theme park, which is no surprise as its owned by oil rich playboys:p

Large shopping malls, larger skyscrapers, mad drivers, expensive cars, building sites, expensive boats, immigrant works by the thousand

Best thing we saw when we were there last January was when we went out into the desert (hired a 4x4), got stuck, and a friendly arab blokey came and pulled us out. He then invited us over to his mates who had taken their pet birds of prey out for a play, they posed for us, and put on a bit of a show for us - getting the birds to catch doves in mid air, after racing at insane speeds in their Landcrusiers across the sand. Bleedin show offs!
