So if England fail to qualify for Euro 2008 and its out of our hands now, who do you think will be the next England manager, I pray to god the FA don't keep Mclaren in charge.

I would love to see Mourinho in charge.

mourinho, o'neill, gus hiddink though that's not going to happen obviously. struggling to think of an english guy i'd have in the job...

I wish they'd gone with Big Sam. I wanted him at the time instead of a manager whose only pedigree is working under a previous failing manager, and lumping 4 forwards on in Europe in a single act of desperation. It worked for Boro, it didn't work for England and its just not good enough.

They didn't go for Sam and he's in a new job. I'd like to see how he gets on at Newcastle, I believe he's the right kind of person to sort them out. I know for a fact that the team he put out in Russia wouldn't have capitulated the way they did last night.

If you're looking in the English leagues you can't look at the big clubs, so you're looking at O'Neill downwards really.

some other useless buffoon who is in with the FA

Sammy Lee or Stuart Pearce...somebody who was crap at their previous management role but their face fits

Stuart Pearce is doing well at U21 level, but that level suits him, he needs to learn more before stepping up.

I'd love to see Mourinho in charge of our national team, someone with a bigger personaility than the rest of the team.

I fear it'll be the same situation as Brian Clough though, the best manager around but the FA were too scared to give it to him.

I doubt JM would do the job, although I wouldn't mind seeing him have a go, Steve Coppell plays some good football and quietly goes about his business, wouldn't mind seeing him in charge either:)

Please not another 3rd rate English manager. England need a top rate manager with proven experience, lets not have another ridiculous media led witch hunt for an English only manager. The best, regardless of nationality should be considered.
If only Mourinho would accept but I doubt it or if only we could hold off until Euro 2008 we could get Big Phil (Scolari).

The FA missed their chance when they appointed McClaren terribly. They had Capello, Hiddink, O'Neill, Scolari and Hitzfeld to choose from, and even Fat Sam would have been a better choice, and they squandered it because of the ridiculous demand for an English manager from the public/press, when there clearly isn't one good enough.

Having said that, I actually think McClaren should stay in the job. While he's not been amazing, he's been the first manager in some time to have us occasionally playing good football. Admittedly it's only appeared in parts for the wins over Russia and Israel, but it's better than the dullness we've had for some time. And really, there are no top-class managers free at the moment, and we're definitely not getting Mourinho, so let's not mess about thinking we could.

Give him two more years at least I reckon.
