So guys,

A couple of questions, besides 3G being pointed by everyone as the next feature desperate to the iphone, what else is being considered or would you like to see?

Also, say its already penned for the last quarter of this year, do you think o2 and the like will offer early upgrades for current contract people (like me, 7th Nov. 2007). :p

What do you think

The usual list really:

- 3G
- Integrated GPS
- More memory
- 5MP camera with AF/flash
- Video recording
- More Bluetooth profiles
- Sensible 3.5mm headphone socket

Apple has said that 3G iPhone is coming 2008, wether that is calendar or fiscal they didn't say.

Apart from 3G, useful as ActiveSynch is hitting the iPhone, it would be nice to get a GPS built in so could do the satnav as well.

Also a better camera as the one at the moment is terrible.

MMS woul be quite good as well to get going on there.

If O2 do an upgrade I can see it being like the 16Mb for 8Mb, ie you buy a new 16Mb phone and put the old sim in the new phone, update O2 with the new MAC address so The Cloud can be updated and still access there wifi, but you don't have too sign a new 18 month contract.

Interesting, I was in Wetherspoons the other day and I tried to search on google. It came up with the cloud homepage asking for my number. It wouldnt allow me to continue as this is my second iPhone (The first died?)

Do I need to ring o2? Thanks.

On Topic:

I agree with the camera, but I cannot see all of those things listed above by Tunney. GPS will just be an addon with the SDK. Proper Bluetooth will help a lot I'm sure.

Yes, ring 02 and they'll reset your MAC code.

The number can be found on the 02 site, FYI it's a 4 digit number.

MMS is dead I think...

The iphone is more akin to a palmtop - but with a much better OS!

Why use MMS - when you can email seems to be the usual reply...

Personally MMS doesnt appeal anymore...

Tom

3G would be nice, but then again, if coverage isn't up to par then it's pointless.

I would like a 32GB iPhone before the year's end

Not all of my friends and relatives (mainly older relatives) have access to email or check their email very often. This is when I miss MMS. I either have to print the pictures or wait till I visit to show them.

I really hope they add it with a future update, "email it instead" is a bit of a lame get out.

Bung a flash on the camera and a button on the side for taking pics and I'd be happy!

Why? because trying to take a picture in a club of you and a friend if stupidly hard! although I've got the hang of it now!

Good point. Agree entirely.

3G will be the main upgrade this year I believe, I wouldn't hold your breath for GPS and all that jazz.

32GB would be great, could carry my whole music collection around with me...just. :p

The main reason I've held off buying an iphone is the same reason I put off buying anything... whenever I do - they add some new feature 3 days after I bite the bullet!

My contract is up in a few months, so I'll just use a pay & go sim until the 'new' iPhone comes out...if it does! Either way I WILL be having one - its just a matter of when...

Not to labour the MMS issue - but although I can see a use for it, the advent of camera phones etc - but the iPhone, from what I can see is just taking it to the next level..

It always surprised me that when the iPhone was released, one of the major issues raised by consumers was the lack of MMS capability...where one would imagine that people buying the hardware would be quite tech savvy and like the thought of 'email at their fingertips..'

Pah, I'm just quoting now - damn kool aid speaking... /jibberish... :)

But that applies to everything, and that is technology for you.

You either do

1 - Get it early so you get most out of it, but obviously pay to have the latest tech.

2 - Don't get it, just get middle of the road stuff as technology eventually trickle down. But i can see the iphone touch screen will be exclusive for a least a couple of years yet, especially that dual touch thing.

Exactly... and I'm not saying its a bad thing! In fairness, the main reason for me not purchasing one is the extortionate buy-out clause O2 have put on my current contract...

I'll definitely get one.. it just depends whether its in 6 months or a year...

My O2 contract runs out in October and I was planning on going to iPhone then. Do you reckon I'll see these new features? Do you think they will announce 3G in San Fran in June?

I don't know - as I've said, I'm in the same kind of boat! grr

I believe that due to laws governing the implementation of devices using a wireless standard take 6 months for approval, meaning it would need to be announced pretty soon to make the deadline..

I may, on the other hand be talking rubbish - I'm just pretty sure I'd heard something along those lines...

I think TUAW had an article a while back.. I'll see if I can dig it out...

Yes, it's very likely they'd announce it coming although I couldn't say if they'd wait to launch it in "a few weeks" after the announcement.

FCC Approval can take as little as 60 days ;)

Heh - well there you go then... rubbish being spouted as usual!

Thats good to know! Cheers EVH!

One of these days I'll get something right!! :)

It was probably me who said 3 months to approval in a previous thread, but that's worst-case.

I could see the 3G chip addition (providing they keep the same design) a minor one in the eyes of the FCC, and it'd take significantly less :)
