The next James Bond could be...

As much as I like Idris Alba, shoehorning a black guy into the role just to fulfil a quota and pander to the PC brigade is a stupid idea. Besides, in Casino Royale (the book not the movie) James Bond is described as being a white guy with a touch of Hoagy Carmichael about him..
 
Slightly playing devils advocate here but if were going down that line isn't Bond also described in the books as having black hair and yet, shock we currently have a blonde actor playing him?
 
Why are we assuming this is for PC purposes or anything like that? Maybe people just think he'd make a good Bond...

Besides, M was a man until Goldeneye and Felix Leiter used to be white. Deal with it.

Is it necessarily that though? I think it might be that he'd simply make a decent Bond.

TBH, I'm not up for the idea though. It's a bit like making Doctor Who a woman - another dim idea. I'd rather see Idris cast as a different role in a Bond film. Maybe bring in another 00 agent and have Idris play him?
 
I can see him being a good Bond tbh. My understanding was Bond wasn't even Scottish or Fleming didn't really expand on that part until after Connery. I think he would add something different. I've liked all the Bonds tbh - I grew up with Moore, my dad got me to appreciate Connery and the originals, Lazenby is in my eyes in the best Bond film and that fight at the start is pretty awesome so is that skichase, Dalton actually after reading the books plays the character very well, Brosnan stopped a failing franchise and rebooted it with Goldeneye and added that bit if swagger back and Craig added a new dimension or rather re-discovered Bond's rough edges.

Racism disguised as canon purists. Who gives a ****? Star Wars has toasted allot of its canon for the new films. James bond or doctor who, these rinse repeat hero archetypes have to get new actors at some point, and skin colour or even gender are at the bottom of the pile compared to raw talent and directorial intent.

The greater problem here is the James bond films have been stale as crusty old bread for decades. Austin powers did a great job of satirising how ridiculous the whole premise is complete with suitably curly chest hair. Even with the Craig reboot every character and plot line is the same old rehash of the same old boring spy thriller. Just like Sony's oligarchy over Spiderman, these films are churned out like a business, for a business, to tick a businessy box.

I'd think he would make a great Bond. He is a great actor, it's a shame people care about his colour. All that should matter is his acting skill?
 
I think he would make an amazing Bond. About time the films got a decent reboot!

A fantastic actor who could bring something new to the table.
