The next Labour leader thread

Yes it did. Militant were forced out by Kinnock in the 80s and they formed the SWP.

The trouble is, what people refer to the "hard left" within labour aren't actually hard left at all. It's the centre right currently trying to kick out a moderate left leader.

That would be the swp whose banners dominate corbyns supporter rallies and form the backbone of momentum, or a different one?

Corbyn is not moderate left, I just thank Christ he doesn't have access to the state monopoly of force given his classic hard left attitudes to people who disagree with him.

The Unions still wield significant power. The current issues in Labour are rooted in ideology. I think the problem for Labour is that the party never got rid of it's hard-Left element. In Germany, the SDP separated from the hard-Left and developed a center-Left party (the SDP had no choice as the Communist Party was banned in West Germany in 1956), and in France the Socialists parted company with the Communists and similarly developed a center-Left party. That's never happened here in the UK: The hard-Left still infest Labour, much to the party's disadvantage.

Correct.

I am really hoping for a split, we really need the lefty labour to go its own way.

It's sad how undistinguishable from the Conservatives Labour is.

That's why it's so important that Stormin' Corbyn stays on as leader of the Labour party. A United left wing opposition will make the Tories struggle. Voting a blairite in, well you might as well vote Tory.*

*my opinion, not fact.

So you don't embrace the conventional approach to forming a government of being voted in?

Lol at 60,000 new members joining Labour. The Corbyn-ite sabotage is on!

I joined (£1 for year for a 'student') and I'll be voting to keep him in :p I've never voted labour but I think he's the best thing they've had for a while, you need a genuine 'left' party to counter a 'right' party.

Amusingly - it's this reasoning that is keeping any 'left' party from getting in. Edit - I don't doubt that you are meaning well.

Core labour voters don't like corbyn. Conservative voters really don't like him. He will never will an election.

I'm more likely to vote for labour under JC than I ever would have done Ed Milliband.

I don't think they need to get in, just be a big enough 'conscience' or providing a check and balance for the conservatives if you like.

The problem is is that politicians these days only seem to be interested in their values if they're popular, if their values or the values of the people they claim to support aren't 'popular' (read: wouldn't win them a general election) they drop them, that's not right, everyone deserves a voice however unpopular, that's democracy and why I've never hated the fact we have or had the BNP, I think they're idiots but that doesn't mean they don't hold values and shouldn't be represented to some degree. I'd rather a BNP member with conviction in parliament than someone who can't decide what colour tie to wear depending on which way the wind is blowing. The labour MPs really do need to put up or shut up.

He looked like he was going to knock a woman out today who was mouthing off at him.

The press are doing a fantastic job of demonizing him further. Was having a chat with the old man about him. His view was that he doesn't "do much". That to run the country you've got to have a face that fits and his doesn't.

I am still behind him even if I cannot cast my vote. If a £3 a year one off comes up again... I'm going to cast.

It doesn't take a genius to see through the media attacks and how he is being deliberately set up... Perhaps because he isn't too fond of Murdoch or the KCNA
