The next Predator movie - Prey (2022 on Hulu)

I maybe mis-remembering but I'm sure there were Aliens v Predator v Terminator v RoboCop at one point. I know that there was separate "v Terminator" and "v RoboCop" comics, alongside "v Batman" at one point :D

There was A v P v T and it wasn't as badly written as the title might suggest :D

Then she has to go through a similar adjustment period where she gains the respect of the Predator called Broken Tusk during her fight against both the Aliens and also some rebelling Predators. By the end she's a far different person than the humourless corporate drone who started the novel and she had a completely believable character arc, something rare to see nowadays.

Aside from the AvP action, which dominates most of the story, her character arc is really well written and far better than the awful film attempt at AvP which tried (badly) to copy a few of her character traits across to Alexa Woods, the woman leading the Ice expedition.

I really liked that story and only just read the second part. I did hope the movie would be based on it but sadly not.

I liked Hiroki's character too.

Generally speaking the popular "strong female characters" from the past were written as really believable, fully fleshed out characters who just happened to be female, whereas now it seems to be that "strong female characters" are written as just those 3 words with little else added, making them seem 2 dimensional cut-outs in comparison.

Obvious it's different for different, specific characters but that seems to be the general gist of why so many recent "strong female characters" seem to flop.

I'd say its a mix of the general lack of screenwriting talent we're current seeing, mixed with a fear of writing a "SFC" who has internal flaws as studio direction seems to be that "SFC's" must be flawless to appease the very vocal online hate-mobs.
 
Who are all these super well fleshed out heroines from the old days anyway?

These movies flop because they are trash to start with, would be equally trash if they had a male lead, nowt to do with the woke obsession.

Yeap I agree 100% but the issue would be that they're not being written with male leads as much nowadays, in which case they'd flop with little said, but that instead they're being made with female leads (no issue) who are still equally poorly written yet are raved about by critics, artificially raising the films supposed quality so when people do eventually see it, they're quite disappointed.

Trash films are trash regardless of the gender of the leads, but that isn't the way it gets reported as its "better" for the media (who get clicks from it) to report it as more Sexism in the fanbase etc.

Ripley and Sarah Connor I guess. Does Leia count? Kate Winslet's character in Titanic as she stopped that guy from getting into her personal space (the bit of wood, not her other "personal space").

It's always super hilarious to watch action films with where some small, svelte, attractive female is throwing massive great big jocks around all over the place. The amount of effort those stuntmen must put it to do backflips and somersault through the air, in response to this tiny wee lassie slapping them...

It's a thing Hollywood is just going to keep doing, because it plays well with their new base. Not because it makes any sense at all.

But then I've always hated action movies where people with guns wait in line to get into melee combat with the "hero" character. And that never made sense either. But it's a thing that must happen, because there is a formula and dammit, we stick to our formula!

Action movies are just so braindead these days, don't thin they're ever going to make another semi-smart action film in my lifetime. It's all John Wick and The Predator, these days. Disengage brain and deliver coke straight to the eyeballs.

What generally happens in modern films, is there's little to no weakness showed. Female is best and can do anything, with little risk or even no risk in a lot of modern movies. Nothing like 80s action movies where female leads rocked, how did we destroy this?

Mulan is a great comparison. Old Mulan was weak compared to her male counterparts, and had to use her intelligence to over come this. New Mulan is intelligent, just as strong and comes with super powers, literally zero weakness just soooo much better than man.

There is nothing to associate yourself with this character, especially for the female crowd as well in real life they aren't stronger or have super powers.

There's loads of examples of great female action movie leads, sadly recently let down by poor writing and playing off that woman are just better for no real reason or proper explanation to their superiority.

What is the weakness shown by Dutch in Predator?

Ah, so his weakness was that when faced with a stronger opponent he was able to outsmart him instead. You have a very funny definition of weakness. I'm going to guess that you're just fine with having strong male characters but have more issues with strong female characters ;)

This is true.

However, Dan Trachtenberg is very promising. I used to watch his stuff when he was a YouTuber and what he/they were able to do with zero budget was very impressive.

He's the only reason I expect this to be pretty good.
