The Night Manager

I am enjoying it. I don't rate Tom Hiddleston that much as an actor. Looked a bit awkward trying to play a hard nut/thug.

Seems a bit more at home hamming it up as the super camp Loki.:p

He is competent though I suppose.

Its dross and it cost 3 million Pounds per episode.

I'm a fan of Olivia Colman but as a spy? Not a chance.

Plus I'm sick of seeing Eton educated actors on the the screen

Come on really?

So you do a critic of a film / Tv show and the actors back ground effects how you rate it?

I can agree slightly with Olivia Colman but the have changed the sex of the character to tick the bbc diversity boxes and I dont think it works.

And also a leather jacket doesn't make you a hard man. Are we to believe that This pigeon chested quaffed pretty boy is now some kind of bad ass?

lol just lol

Its laughable.

Jono8 Your'e totally correct in your observation...You can see Hiddleson doubting himself as a badass...Even he doesn't buy it.

I've sadly got to agree at this early stage - sadly because I wanted this to be good as it's a le Carré. But Laurie, Hiddleston and Colman feel woefully misplaced in this so far. Every time I see Laurie all I can think of is that he'll start camping it up as one of his many over the top toff parts from Black Adder. I'll give anything a fair crack of the whip but I feel this is really going to try me.

Think I'm changing my mind on this - unless its some deliberate philosophical point* (I don't know the actual story) its not really developing either Laurie or Hiddleston's characters very well and while I don't actually mind Colman in this she isn't really adding anything to the story that couldn't have been serviced by any minor part so far. I hope the next episode explodes forwards as if its another one at the same pace I think I'm done.

* i.e. ambiguity as to who is actually the bad guy or a descent from good to bad or whatever.

Two things annoyed me in last night's episode:

1. Get warned by MI6 that another intelligence agency has started an operation against you. Sack the guy you've been working with for ages and replace him with the new guy. That doesn't make sense.

2. So much for running a tight ship - turns out the accountant has been talking shop with his wife while screwing the nanny. Like that's going to end well - in fact it was so implausible I thought that the situation must have been engineered by Roper to test if Pine was a plant or not - if this deal goes south then he knows it's Pine whose spilled the beans.

Apart from that excellent filming and acting and still enjoying watching it.

I'm also enjoying this, its a fairly decent program to end the weekend with it and seems to leave you looking forward to the next one :)

lot of hate for this show it seems, but im enjoying it. Tom is a very talented actor. I would suggest maybe watching some of his work outside of 'The Avengers' before ******** all over his work as an actor...jesus.

I still like it and want to see how it concludes.

Has some good characters.

Tom still isnt very convincing in the role. He is good but has an awkwardness about him when he tries to go all hard man ( ie the swagger......eurgh).

Hugh Laurie is great as always.

Very good fifth episode. Makes the final one a must watch.

One thing though, for supposedly such a clever man, Roper must be a bit of a doughnut to not realise Pine's the dodgy one. It's glaringly obvious.

Also, the BBC is reporting the final episode has been leaked online. Please don't discuss it here until it's been officially aired. I would hate it spoilt for me.
