****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

am i right in thinking the new 3ds or 3ds xl now use micro sd?
and can i plonk in any brand i.e. samsung, sandisk?

Yup, it's micro SD now on the new models. Brand doesn't matter really, although I think most people on here, me included, have plumped for the Samsung EVO 32 Gb card.

thanks
was looking at those, we at work tend to stick to sandisk but will get the samsung

well just ordered me the 3ds xl from the nintendo store.
got the 3ds xl, majora's mask special edition, zelda carry case and charger, found a promo code for a free mario carry case as well :)
to be honest the 2 year warranty swung it, also added the mario 3ds/3ds xl holder as well

Good stuff. Hope you enjoy it, and have better luck than you did with the Wii U ( still worth giving that another bash imo ).

I've got an older 3DS, non-XL, and would say the 3D on the new one is a lot better, after seeing the N3DS on Friday.
I saw one review say that the 3D is actually usable now, and I'd fully agree with this.
You really need to hold the old 3DS in an optimal position for the 3D effect to look good, and I find this position isn't usually the most comfortable for gaming!

Saying that though, £99.99 with Mario 3D is a decent price. I'd be willing to put up with it!

@waspy88
From my point of view, the new one is worth the difference, especially if you're buying new. I had a stuck pixel on mine and I get tech envy I admit, so YMMV as the saying goes, but, I think the following are good reasons to upgrade (note as a list, less so if it was just one of these things):

-There will be n3DS exclusives, such as Xenoblade 3D
-Sound is apparently slightly louder/better on the n3DS (not tested that myself yet)
-3D is a LOT more usable on the move as it now tracks your face and tries to autocompensate for movement
-Slightly better battery
-Faster loading times
-n3DS has a larger screen than the original 3DS so is a nice compromise (about 20% larger I believe)
-Hardware substantially faster (256MB vs 128MB RAM, 10 vs 6MB VRAM, 266 vs 133 GPU clocks, 532MHz dual core CPU vs 266MHz dual core CPU). In the scheme of things still low power, but substantial upgrade at least. There was probably not much point in upgrading much further than this given the limitations of the architecture, resolution, compatibility requirements etc. Nintendo aren't stupid in this regard.
-MH4 as an example smoother/higher framerate, and I doubt this will be the only game that benefits

All in, it's a better experience if you're buying now, that should run smoother, with fewer framerate drops and some enhancements over the original nearly 5 year old model.

Running a Samsung 32GB Evo in mine, works perfectly £11 from the rainforest, but I expect the price has gone up now with the demand for the new 3ds I bought it around a month ago.

Cheers all

Just collected mine from argos, going to sell street fighter and dead or alive with my old 3DS have no interest in those games, also got a £10 voucher so not a bad deal in all. Can't wait to get home and compare it to our original 3DS. Will post some impressions up later! :)

Going through my second childhood :)

Cheers all

Nice! We've got Bowser/Peach/Mario so far. Had to laugh at the prices in game (£14.99) earlier, and that their sale prices on some was a tenner.
