The **Now Drinking** Thread

So what Opera was it?

Yum indeed.

Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it. If you need any recommendations, you know who to ask ;)

It was 'Tosca' at Glasgow's Theatre Royal. Contrary to what I've read, people were dressed up pretty well. The odd people casual clothes but by and large everyone there was dressed up which was nice. I didn't wear a tie, but if I had I wouldn't have been out of place.
Within a few minutes of the opening Act I was hooked and was really enjoying it. It's a bit weird darting your eyes to read the supertitles quickly whilst they are still singing but it's essential to follow the story.
I do begrudge paying £5 for a a glass of wine which is served in a plastic tumbler, but hey ho.
£50 a ticket is a bit too steep for me to go regularly (my mother paid last night), but I'm keen to go again. I think we're going to give the ballet a go next month though and see what that's like.

I wish I could pay £50 a ticket for the ROH! They're nearly 4 times more expensive there for decent seats, but at the end of the day you get what you pay.

Ballet is beautiful, start with one of the 'popular' ones, you'll most likely recognise music from them - Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Nutcracker (best to see this at Christmas time) or Sleeping Beauty and Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet or Cinderella. Generally ballet is cheaper than opera.

/On topic - Drinking the rest of the Rioja from yesterday.

Plus, the footfall in London is far greater than Glasgow. Though yesterday was basically full! I'm not sure it would attract quite the same number of people if stalls were priced at £100 a pop. Despite being the countries 3rd biggest city, Glasgow doesn't have any starred restaurants which some see as a comment on the type of people who live here!

Drinking some White Burgundy from M&S. Nice!

1 litre of Twinings English Breakfast tea in my 34oz Bubba Keg :D

As it's Sunday, today is Bloody Mary day. I will be making a large jug of it in time for the footie. I'll have to nip to the shop for limes though - for some reason Waitrose chose not to substitute the unwaxed limes they didn't have for my online order yesterday - I find it hard to believe they had no limes at all (even the delivery girl thought it was odd).

On to the Bloody Marys now.

Stan's Bloody Mary recipe:

500ml Good tomato juice (Pressed juice, not from concentrate - I'm using Waitrose today but Morrison's do a good one as well).
500ml Good vodka (I'm using Russian standard today).
1tsp Celery salt
1tsp Worcestershire sauce
1tsp Salt
1/2tsp White pepper
Dash Tabasco sauce
Juice 1 Lime

The above recipe makes a good jug which keeps me sipping away on a Sunday afternoon. I like to taste the vodka so I make mine half and half, obviously you can adjust to taste. Also, I'm a bit of a salt freak so you may want to tone down the salt if you prefer.

Don't put ice in the jug - by the time you get to the end, the cocktail will be so diluted, it won't be good. If you must use ice, put it in the glass. I prefer just to keep the jug in my beer fridge and drink it without ice.
