Enjoying a bottle of Jouis Jadot Beaujolas Villages 2014 tonight.
About 4 weeks ago, I decided to try and cut down my drinking. I was drinking at least a bottle of wine a night, and usually a couple of beers/cocktail/dram as well on top of that. I had been drinking at this level for 10 years. Enough was enough I thought. The health side of it didn't particularly bother me, but I was more concerned with the financial side. Just wasted money.
The first few days were really weird, I was completely spaced out and kind of like I was hungover. It was quite bizarre. However, it got easier. I was sleeping much better even after a couple of days and at the end of the first week I was waking up ready for the day rather than dreading it.
I decided not to stop alcohol entirely, as frankly I enjoy it far too much and limited myself to sensible drinking at the weekend. That is, no shots, not many spirits and try to stick to one type of drink.
Anyway, I'm probably week 4 in now and the habit of coming in and getting a drink before I've taken my jacket and shoes off has completely gone. I'm no longer reaching straight for the bottle. Sure, I still fancy one whenever I come home but it's very easy to say no.
Tonight, I had a good day at work (commission sales - yay) so thought I'd have a bottle of wine. And I really looked forward to it and it made it more special and actually more enjoyable.
So yea, just some musing here. Cutting down on drinking is easy, it's breaking the habit which is hard but I'm so glad I've done it. Here's hoping that I can keep at it!
