The **Now Eating** Thread

Breakfast at EAT. Sourdough toast with smashed avocado and feta. With a clouded lemonade :)

Was going to try out this new fried chicken place for lunch. Heard good things about it. The chicken and waffles sounds really good. But I had a free burger to claim on my GKB rewards app and it was due to expire at the end of the week. Soo...

A free Hot Diggity burger. The chilli fried egg on top was good :D

How often do you eat out? Seems quite often, in particular at EAT and GBK? Nothing other than curiosity btw

I do quite like eating out, my days off work permitting. And I do have a few favourites, like EAT, Pret, Tim Horton's, Patisserie Valerie and GBK. I have a rewards app for GBK that often gives free stuff.

I hear that. Its probably just as well I don't actually live in Glasgow. That's where I seem to spend the bulk of my eating out money. Only being able to go on my days off at least puts a limit on my spending.

Another day out in Glasgow today. Went to a couple of new places today.

Breakfast at Bill's Glasgow Restaurant. Very nice fried breakfast. Would definitely eat there again :)

I was going to have lunch at that new place Absurd Bird, but the reviews its been getting on TripAdvisor have been pretty poor. Several reviews compared it to another way better place, Buck's Bar. So I decided to try that out instead.

Buttermilk fried chicken and waffles, with maple syrup. Also a side of popcorn chicken. And dessert was Alabama Fudge cake.

Couple of things. First, getting the side dish was a mistake. The portions were bigger than I was expecting, I could NOT finish the main course. Also I don't think I would get the chicken and waffles again. It was nice, but I found the blend of sweet and savoury to be a bit off putting after a while. Ironically they had a special that was chicken and waffles with mac n cheese instead of maple syrup. I probably would have preferred that. Ah well. I'm still not sorry that I tried it.

Did you like the chicken and waffles? I had it once drizzled in maple syrup with a side of ranch and I just found the meal very odd and doesn't work well together. The chicken was nice and the waffles were nice but they just didn't work together for me.

Like I said above, I did like it, but the combination of sweet and savoury was a bit confusing to my palate. I wouldn't rush to get it again. I think it would be way better without the maple syrup. Maybe a hot sauce instead or a blue cheese sauce. Or gravy.

No way I'm going out today in this miserable weather. Thankfully that new Domino's is available. Got myself a lunch deal. Small pizza with 2 toppings for £4.99. Tandoori chicken and Cumberland sausage. Very nice indeed :D

you're snubbing one of the main contributions/combinations the USA has bought to humanity ? pancakes+maple with a side of scrambled eggs/bacon... mmm
(although following waffle thread I'm more sceptical that we get genuine maple .. which absorbs better)

...no dinner photos ?

Not at all. I would be down for trying that. Its just the chicken and waffle thing didn't do it for me as much as I hoped it would.

And "dinner" yesterday was this. I almost never had a proper dinner when I got out for breakfast/lunch. Too full. This pulled beef wrap from EAT made a very nice late afternoon snack though.

I love fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup but what your missing (and I think you need) is bacon, the smoked flavour really brings the sweet n savoury together, I usually have it with a poached egg too.
