**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Well I'll be damned.

3GB card owners read on...

To play watch dogs you'll need to do one of 2 things to prevent you crashing into the Vram wall which is producing stutter:

Medium textures with 8xMSAA (still looks good) ~2750mb
Ultra textures with no AA (above looks better) ~2900mb

Going to have a dabble with some down sampling from 1440 to see if it yields some better results

1440 gives exact same vram read outs, I can only presume the game engine is forcing a set amount of vram, which is obviously too much for a 3GB card. Be interesting to see what it does to a 4GB card at ultra texture + 8xmsaa.

Even 'high (2GB)' texture with 8xMSAA is a no go.

Brace your selves for the "watch dogs runs like **** on my <insert card name here>" tomorrow :p

Forget the thread i just posted, i think they need some 'vram optimization'. :p

I think the game its self certainly does, I expected once the resolution was set to 1440 for the texture and AA memory requirements to climb, which isn't the case, more the game wants to use x amount of vram and thats final.

ultra textures requires a default of 3GB, 8xMSAA requires 2GB of vram, I don't know if these figures are then combined for the 'true ultra' setting to give 5GB or not. Either way I look forward to seeing at what card, be it 4GB or 6GB the vram hammering stops.

If you look at the bigger picture, for being a TWIMTB/GW title, they've really kicked Nvidia in the stones, as it stands the cheapest green solution to play this at full ultra/1080p is a pair of 6GB 780's running in some £900.

I hear you and respect your opinion.

For now im going to vote with my wallet now regarding this game and see what pans out over the coming days and weeks.

Seems to be a case of ubisoft saying, we'll make this a gameworks title and take the money from nvidia that go's with that, then well leave the game so demanding that people will have to fork out a fortune to play it at high details. Nvidia say, sure we love the sound of that. Or perhaps im just very cynical.:D

A wise plan. I really do feel sorry for those that have waited months, in some cases over a year to be met with what I know is coming tomorrow (providing a day 1 patch doesn't magically alter the Vram requirements).

It would be quite a wise old plan for them to do so...if the game was actually any good. Modded GTA4 and Sleeping Dogs wipe the floor with WD in terms of visuals, performance and most importantly how good the game is.

Nice drivers these. Seem to work very well with everything I've tried, although theres a weird bug in watch dogs which is related to reflections where they appear as a flickering ring around the character that won't disappear unless you reload the entire game again. Annoying, but only seen it once so far.

Have you got Ultra textures enabled? I think there's an issue with that that you can fix by starting the game with the following command line switch -

-disablepagefilecheck

2560x1440
Ultra textures + FXAA works nicely with a 3GB card, I don't personally notice any image blurring with FXAA. If the 3GB card (780) is overclocked then TXAA is also an option. A bit better performance then 2xMSAA and doesn't have the image blur that some people report about FXAA

I have just moved to the green side. Those 290s ran too hot for my case

2 x 780s. 3GB really does get used for WatchDogs

Have we confirmed it is a VRAM issue or a bad coding issue?

Getting a blue screen half way through installing new nvidia drivers, everytime without fail. Any idea what would be causing this?

I've triple checked they are the correct ones. GTX780, Win 7 64.

Run DDU and follow the instructions and then install the new ones. I had the same issue with a previous driver and that fixed it for me.
