**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

On my 4090, when playing a video from YT or Plex on a second 4K 60Hz screen while gaming on my primary 4K 144Hz screen, the new 621.01 driver immediately causes the video to stop/stutter and audio to stop/start, while the game is completely unaffected and it runs silky smooth. If I press the windows key so the game isn't in focus, the video plays fine but immediately stalls again once the game is in focus.

I installed 617.42 over the top, and without rebooting, I had no issues gaming and playing videos at the same time. I have never come across this bug in any previous Nvidia drivers; this is a really bad bug.

Edit: Fixed my issue below; the driver update screwed up my settings.

got gsync enabled, if yes disable and see if it still happens if you put 621.01 back on.

It seems I found the issue, as the issue started on the working 617.42. Seems the driver update not only disabled smooth motion in the Nvidia app on a game I set on but it also changed the global vsync setting to default instead of forced on. It also changed my primary screen refresh rate to 144hz from the 120hz I usually keep it on despite the Nvidia app and Windows control panel reporting the screen running at 120 Hz. So the game was maxing out the GPU at 144Hz instead of 120Hz on top of not using smooth motion to half the GPU usage again, therefore starving the GPU of power to run a simple video.

I've never had a simple driver update cause that issue before; I only noticed it because I enabled the Nvidia overlay stats to see if anything was up.

NVIDIA’s new 621.01 driver is already getting some early negative reports.

Users are reporting:

• Black screens and driver crashes
• nvlddmkm Event ID 153 errors
• G-SYNC / VRR stuttering in some games
• “Prefer Maximum Performance” not working properly for some users
• mVolt+ voltage-limit issues
• DLSS Frame Generation Preset C reportedly missing

Zero issue over here with latest drivers. Played BF6 and Onimusha no problem.

Same!

EDIT : Seems to be affecting some Gsync monitors.

So apparently from what I am also reading on the Nvidia forums, leaving G-sync enabled globally messes with frame-pacing and causes stutter, while disabling it globally and enabling it on a per-game basis fixes the stutter. Gonna have to try this.
