**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

It's always worth updating. If the current driver works fine and the new one has issues, you can always install the old one over the top.

They may have fixed or improved things that weren't in the patch notes. The Division 2 runs much better for me with smooth motion on in the current driver compared to the last official release, and that fix certainly wasn't listed.
Any reason why you're running smooth motion on for the Division 2 whilst using a 4090? Surely you're getting enough FPS at native to not even consider needing smooth motion!

Even maxed out at native 4K, I have no issues hitting my cap of 120fps, but the GPU is usually at 80% to 100% to reach it.

With smooth motion on, I still get to run at native 4K, but in order to reach 120fps with it on, I’m usually at 40% to 60% load. While I use a controller primarily, even with a mouse, it still feels very smooth and responsive. Plus, my GPU power usage drops down from about 400w (+ or - 30w), to just 190w to around a max of 240w.

This means a much cooler and quieter system, my Zotac 4090 GPU and 7950X3D both average around 55c to 58c. I love smooth motion.

Anyone tried the OG driver modding group Tweakforce "XtremeG" modded drivers ? Tried them out and FPS are definitely smoother/less erratic frame spikes/dips.

Apparently they mod the following -
  • Paletted Textures In Video Memory
  • Render Quality Flags
  • Target Flush Count
  • Texture Clamp Behavior
  • Texture LOD Bias
  • Use Cached PCI Mappings
  • Texture Memory Space
  • Downloaded Memory Space
  • Texture Precache
  • UMA Fast Frame Buffering
  • Main 3D rendering
  • Triple Buffering
Link for any interested - https://www.reddit.com/r/XtremeG/

And another crash in Battlefield 6

That's TWO so far on this driver

None on any of the previous ones wtf

Only thing I've done different in these drivers is forcing 16X Anisotropic Filtering in the control panel

Safe to update... or hold for now? I'm currently running 581.29 and flawless so far, to be honest not updated in drivers in ages?

So Intel can make multi frame gen work on their cards, but on RTX 4000 series apperently it can't be done even though they support FG ? Is there hardware limitation or just Nvidia wanting to sell their 5000 series cards ?

This. They want to flog their 5000 series cards, not encourage 4000 series to keep theirs.

The hardware on them sometimes makes the difference such as the tensor core generations. You can see it in the DLSS switch with the CNN, so while you are able to use backward compatibility at some point the extra overhead or compute shows its not going to behave as well. I would imagine the 6000 series would be dropping them seeds if it was near but the ram problem has scuppered that bandwagon for a bit.

Has anyone had any issues with instant replays not working? It seems to work then stop, annoying as I like recording clips but the last few drivers it's been broken for me even though its on. I've tried DDU also!

It worked mostly but there needs to be time for the nvidia app to get it concrete. After trying OBS I will wait for nvidia to get the app working better in many areas before checking in again.

Not sure what's up with my system at the moment, but I played 2 hours of Battlefield 6 and no issues. Came on later and it hard froze, then back to desktop gpu driver crash. Also had one in a browser.

Only thing I've changed his updating to the latest studios. Lots with no issues!

So I'm going to try the vulkans. Hopefully it's just a driver thing

Not had a single crash on this system since I built it when the 9800X3D came out
