The Observer (new horror from layers of fear dev)

*grumble groan*

Opted for DLGamer, placed the order, it said "Turn your phone on because paypal will text you" which I thought was odd, but Mkay...?
Got the text, entered some code on DLGamer, money got taken from paypal....

THEN they inform me that they need my mobile number to send me some code to activate my steam key on their site, which will then let me access my steam code, but not before.

Damn glad I had a spare active junk sim to one side.

Will never be using that site ever again.

Good side, got my key & it's installing :D
No sleep tonight ;)

Installed, pressed play, confused

It comes up with some pop up launcher, that has "login" & "Register game".
Also news, support & more games adverts.

Ruh roh, bet there's rants on steam, but definitely on gog :D

Oh, also direect youtube/twitch streaming.

Steam reviews seem good but mixed.

Usual moaning about no 21:9 support, bugs me. It's clearly not a common thing to support yet so why buy the screen and expect support. But I can understand it being frustrating

Few optimisation complaints too, usual stuff

Positive reviews mention the setting and atmosphere

Indeed, all aboard the 21:9 farce.

16:9 fo life

If there's no 21:9 support then I'm not touching it. If I wanted to game at 1080p / 16:9 / 30fps then I'd have bought a PS4.

I do understand this point of view too, we have Pcs to have that performance but at the moment, from outside looking in, 21:9 just isn't a thing yet.

Obviously some games are doing that bit extra to support it but maybe it's not worth the time or whatever to smaller devs to implement. I can't speak to what it takes to support it mind.

It just seems every new game comes out and on launch day the 21:9 complaints come in :D. Is it something that is growing in popularity on the consumer side? I'd say people are more interested in 4k? All flies by me tbh

Most games I've bought since owning a 21:9 screen have supported the resolution, and even older titles support it. I'm not sure how difficult it can be to implement if it's been native for games like the Batman franchises and titles from 10 years ago like Crysis, BioShock etc..

It almost looks like an interactive movie from the screens I've seen. Gonna complete Dishonored and then buy it.

I'm not too clued up on it but I imagine if that many games do it then, surely all can at this point. Apologies for my ignorance on the topic :D

I'm no expert but my understanding is that a well coded game will automatically detect the native resolution and provide an option to display the game accordingly. Half Life 2, F.E.A.R and even Psychonauts (2004) for example all do this.

Barely got into it yet, but what I have seen does look good, once you change .Ini to remove blur & chromatic.
There are some problems. You can rebind crouch in settings, but it does nothing. Odder still, I then tried to rebind to "\" & that just crashes the game. (never have understood preference of LCTRL over LAlt or other keys).
Not overly keen on the vision thing.
You've normal eye sight & then you've one for detecting electrical type things & another for biological.
They're okay when they're on, but it takes around 2-3 seconds of wibbly wobbly effects on screen, which means you're just left stood waiting for it to settle.
That's just something that bugs me though.

Does look promising aside from that though.

Then again, seen a few on steam forums finding game breaking bugs. But what new release doesn't these days? ;)

This is probably one of the more pleasant experiences I've had with new games. I know it's cheap, the corners they cut are obvious. But at least here the Batman detective mode / Witcher sense is ised for an actual honest to god investiagaion as the backbone of the story. Linear as hell, but that cyberpunk feel. It's like I'm back in the golden age of adventure games with an FPS mechanic that doesn't suck. The visuals are amazing in how simple yet effective they are. All the dirty rooms and basements, the digital interfaces of augmented reality used by people to decorate their homes, the white noise in the character's eyes... Blade Runner meets synthwave.
And Rutger Hauer voicing the protagonist. The old rusty still got it.

I think that's more straight up horror, this doesn't seem to be going for that from what I've seen?

If outlast 2 is anything like the original then anything is better surely :D

Rutger Hauer? Reviews said he was really good.

While gossiping with the residents you'll also get to know Lazarksi himself, played by Rutger Hauer in one of the few examples of a celebrity tie-in that actually adds to the experience. Part of the thrill, of course, is essentially casting Roy from Blade Runner in the role of his nemesis, Deckard, but Hauer also lends a distinctive texture to the part - by turns detached, baleful, kindly and bemused. Among the script's virtues is its terseness: Lazarksi talks to himself while piecing together evidence, but this is always atmospheric rather than intrusive, the pinched asides of a career investigator who spends a lot of time on his lonesome, poking through scenes of squalor.
