The OcUK distributed computing team needs YOU!

Sorry but in the current climate (in more than one context) this is utter stupidity
Sorry, but the first paragraph was directed at people like you. You'll note in the thread I did take care to suggest ways to keep this energy- (and therefore cost-) neutral. :)

I just upgraded to a Q6600/8800GT setup and I think I've got it up at 3.65ghz stable. Guess this is a good a way as any to test it in the long run :D

Incidentally, you can choose how long you want work units to last for. The default is an approx. 3-hour process time, but you can set it to a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 1 day. Look under Rosetta@home preferences within your account, then change the Target CPU run time to your preferred value. This helps if you don't want work units to last too long. The credit you get is related to the amount of process time required, so longer-lasting work units gain more credit than shorter ones.

honestly? i still dont know what this is all about. all this stuff with pirates has confused me...seriously what do you want me to do, and why.

mabye im just being stupid and missing the point lol, oh well :(

Well to answer the first part, I only suggest that you re-read this bit. It's all explained here.

What do you need me to do?
Firstly, if you're already doing other distributing projects, thankyou, but we'd like you to stop doing those for a while and join Rosetta@home.

If you have permission to install software on your PC(s), and you don't already have the BOINC software, then download and install the BOINC client. 64-bit Windows and Linux users, please make sure you use the 32-bit client - otherwise you may run into problems later.

When you've done that, you'll need to 'attach' to the Rosetta@home project and create an account there. If you're a first time user of BOINC, the software should guide you through this. Existing BOINC users will probably already know what to do.

Finally, and most importantly, access your account at the Rosetta@home website, and join the team called 'OcUK - Overclockers UK'. There are several teams with 'overclockers' in the name, so make sure you join the right one.

Is it just a case of installing? Or is it reg-edits like f@h?
also, does it only use your cpu when it's idle? or will it slow down applications which you are using?

No reg edits. It uses a program called boinc which is straight forward to install. I believe you can set it to only idle. But when i used it on my pc i had it at 100% 24/7 and i was still able to game and do everything normally with no effects at all :/ Was a bit wierd that but maybe windows just doesn't give boinc priority idk. No harm in downloading and trying. If you don't get along with it just uninstall :) (if you uninstall berserker will go beserk and rape you)

meh may as well, it's only a 2ghz c2d laptop but it's better than nothing. it's not like I pay the electricity bills, and my laptop's always on anyway :p

No regedits. The installer is pretty smart now and will do all the leg work for you. The default is to keep running even when you're using your computer, and unless your system is RAM limited or you're doing something particularly demanding, you'll not notice it (besides the fans working harder, particularly in a laptop).

If you don't like that, go back to 'your account' page (the one you used to join the team) and adjust the computing preferences.

It's installed =]
I went into task manager to set it to low priority, and it had already done it itself, yay :)
