Having gone through a bit of a trial period (during which everything seemed to work quite smoothly) I can now finally present the (mostly) working Steam Names List wherein you will find a list of people who use the steam platform for online gaming and (eventually) the games which they play.

For the moment the games which people can associate their name with are:

L4D
L4D2
TF2
CS:S
BF:BC2 (Now with added Bad Company 2 name column)
MW2

Of course, there can be more games added over time, just mention which ones you feel are appropriate and I'll update the list.

There are some basic instructions after the jump but nothing too complicated. Let me know if you have any problems and I'll try and fix them as soon as I can.

Once you've added yourself be sure to add a few people from the list to your own friends list

This list is merely an amendment to others work so thanks is due to FrenchTart (the poster formerly known as Aekeron) and Z0mb1e for laying the groundwork.

Whether it will be useful or not now is another matter but it only took a few minutes to knock up and can't do any harm.

Games currently on the list:

Bioshock 2
DOW 2
GTA IV
Dirt 2

I've moved Dirt 2 onto the GFWL list as it really belongs there instead but don't fear, if you've added your name to the other list I've amended your details to the GFWL list.

Any other games which you feel need adding to the list just give me a shout and I'll sort it out.

I'm unsure whether to put Dirt 2 on here or not as it is already on the other list and people have been using that so will probably be easier to leave that where it is.

Antar, you considered creating a google docs form to get people to input their details?

I did try this z0mbi3 but I just can't seem to make it put the data where I want it. I'll have to fiddle about with it some more but for now I just can't make it work for me.

You can add yourself to the list

A lot of people don't add to their friends list any more but do accept requests (like myself for example) so your best bet is to add some people off the lists to get you started and then add more people you inevitably meet in game and enjoy playing with.

Can u get steam to track BF2:BC when u bought the retail version? I added it as a non-steam game.

No but there is a specific column for your in-game BF:BC2 name so it's not necessary to have Steam and in fact quite a few BC2ers on the list don't have Steam and are just using the list for that game

As Tefal said, you need to add yourself to the list and then send friend requests to a random selection of people on the list to get yourself started

Hey Antar can u add Alien Swarm to the list plz? I've gained lots of new steam friends from that game. I'm currently making a map for it, using hammer not tilegen.

Not being lazy or anything but there's not really much point in adding Alien Swarm since everyone on Steam has it anyway.

You're definitely missing something, L4D and L4D2 are both and the list and were in fact the driving force behind creating something like this.

Are you sure you're looking at the Steam Names List and not the GFWL list?
