OK, lets get this on the road.
I will be the judge, jury and executioner and my decision is final.
Why me?
Because I'm now in my 36th year of playing in bands and auditioning 1000's of musicians both in my bands and other peoples bands.
I will be listening for a talent that I think is good enough to play alongside me in a band of my choosing (in other words if you are a brilliant classical guitarist then my band is classical and so on).
(At this point some will say that the guitarist in my band at the moment isn't that good but believe me, we've tried Vai/Satriani/Wylde soundalikes and none of them fitted and he does a great job at the music we play).

I expect two things -
1 - a recording of you sitting down, picking up the guitar and pratting about for around a minute.
2 - a recording of you with a band/home studio that you are so impressed by that it will impress me.

I accept that some of you may not have number 2 so I will accept number 1 if its exceptional.

I will host all the tracks on my site so you can send the MP3's to my email address below. Start auditioning.

If you click on my sig you can hear me playing guitar with my band, there's 8 short demo clips. I'll record some noodling later on.

Can't get anything. Tried in both Firefox and IE.
I've entered the site and tried to download from the list but nothing there

How about sticking up an example of your work dmpoole, always interested in what you would sound like :)

You can hear my voice if you click on the link on my sig, go to the media page and download some videos.

I've now put my entry on the web page of recordings I did in my studio a while back but I don't confess to being a musician but somebody who prats around a bit.

Where are these warriors, have they left the country?
Come and show us what you've got.

No problem :)

I've learnt upto the sweep picking bit, sounds ok, but I need more practice, I've found it to be one of the most enjoyable things to learn though so it's all good :)

Thanks! Thats wicked.

Can play the first 40 bars or so at the moment, but its no where close to being clean or sounding good yet. I think the faster parts may exceed my ability, but its worth a try :D

I think I could give him a run for his money - but not on that song.

I can play most of it up to about 2.10 mins.

Havent really had time to do more yet, but the hardest bit (bit i couldnt do) I found was the mini 'shred' halfway through that. Cant do it for the life of me. :(

Most Boring Song Ever

And pretty damn easy to play really. Minus the sweep picking (which always looks much more impressive than it is) its all slow, repatativy and rubbish.

Mine was hardly a guitar warrior post, i was just commenting on the progress i made, since the part i learnt is actualy the easiest part. Also not really interested in joining a band with someone who lives so far away :p I'd have a shot at recording it though if anyone thinking i've lied. I thought the GW posts were more the ones saying "thats rubbish", "i could play better" etc :o

Its an hypothetical audition.
Get your entry in and it doesn't have to be Canons Pachelbel.

Very impressive ArmyofHarmony.

PaulN is not a member but always looks on in these forums every day.
PaulN used to by my duo partner and he asked if he could submit a couple of solos.
The solos are Still Got The Blues and Freebird and I play all the other instruments on the tracks.
What makes this so sad is that PaulN can no longer play guitar because of an injury to his neck.

Mr Poole - I've added you to MSN...Got an empty three of me pratting about with a Hohner LX-30, Marshall valve practice amp, Digitech Vox unit and a little bit of electronic stuff for you...

Not normally one to let others hear my stuff but I think it's about the closest thing I make to 'your kind of stuff'.

*n

You'll be very lucky to get me on MSN - you might as well email them to me.
You can send any kind of stuff in.
My hypothetical band will play whatever impresses me the most.

Some great guitar work there lads and if Dave wants a poll added to the thread, just ask. :)

Not just yet.
There are dozens of warriors still to see the thread.
I think I should be hypothetically auditioning all types of musos for my hypothetical band so drummers, bass, keyboards, strings, woodwind, brass, triangle players are all welcome.

*bump*

Get your entries in, I wanna see how this plays out

You know, I know, other forum members know and all the Dons know that the people we really want to hear are not going to take part.
What was said in the other thread - put up or shut up.

We'll see how this pans out for a couple of weeks and drop hints to the Guitar Warriors. Of course all the entries so far aren't from the Guitar Warriors which we all expected anyway.

Hehe, dmpoole is gonna be all over you! ;) :D

Not really.
He's not a guitarist claiming he can do better or that such and such is easy.
If he doesn't like our audition/compo tapes then thats fine with me.

However, if he claimed he was better than Neil Peart I'd be all over him.

CBS - leave him alone, he's a drummer.
Drummers sit at the back hitting things and are dead jealous of the guitarists and singers.
They hit things hard and can't hear the talents of those in front of them.
I've played in bands since 1970 and its always the drummer who I fall out with or are the weirdest in the band.

Please guys, lay off Neon.
He has his thoughts and we have to respect them.
I have to wonder if he was auditioning for a hypothetical band if any of the audition tapes would have raised his eyebrows like mine have been raised?

Also Neon, I have opened up this audition/compo to all musicians because my hypothetical band needs all musicians, so send in your 'tape' with you drumming and backing singing.

I've been following this with interest, but this is the only place I've ever heard the term "guitar warriors", and "warriors" keeps getting repeated - What the hell does that mean?

The original term is Keyboard Warriors (people who act hard behind their PC keyboard) but I changed it to Guitar Warriors because of this thread -

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17541704

We have still yet to see all the musicians who can easily play this tune bring any proof forward. The only entrants for my hypothetical band have been the musos who keep their mouths shut and just get on with it. I can't wait wait for the four losers who stand on a stage with me to be replaced with cybermusos.
